Today at the Four Freedoms Awards in Middelburg, I had the honour of presenting Gisèle Pelicot with the Freedom from Fear Award for her unwavering commitment to speaking out against violence against women and girls.
Standing there, I was deeply inspired by her words “Freedom means nothing if it is not safe for every woman, and silence has never protected anyone.”
What moves me most about Giséle is not only what she has endured, but how she has transformed that pain into a voice that refuses to disappear. Through extraordinary courage in the courtroom and her refusal to remain silent in the face of unimaginable trauma, she has become an international symbol for survivors of sexual violence. Her voice has shifted global conversations, turning personal pain into collective awareness and a demand for justice and protection.
As a UN Women NL ambassador I felt the responsibility to use every moment, every stage, and every voice to push for safety, dignity, and equality for all women and girls. This award is not only a tribute to Giséle and her resilience, but like I mentioned she embodies what this award represents.

“Ik had altijd twee dromen: modeontwerper worden óf de beautywereld in”, deelt Olcay Gulsen, die in 2019 startte met haar beautylabel @ogbbeauty . “Ik had nooit verwacht dat het zo’n enorm succes zou worden.” In een groot interview in Marie Claire is ze open en eerlijk over het succes en de uitdagingen die ze tegenkomt bij het runnen van haar beautylabel OGB. “Ik ben trots op mijn beautybedrijf en de mensen die er werken. Dat ik weer vanaf nul ben begonnen en dat het me gelukt is om opnieuw iets op te bouwen.”
Ook vertelt ze meer over haar nieuwe liefde Eelko van Kooten met wie ze dit jaar nog wil trouwen. “Ik wil niet jarenlang verloofd zijn, dus we zijn nu aan het kijken of we dit jaar nog kunnen trouwen. In Zuid-Frankrijk, daar zijn we allebei gek op.”
