Introducing our newest member @olamesmer
Hey everyone! My name is Ola, I’m a Latvian-born cinematographer based in London and I’m super excited to be joining this amazing collective of incredible DOPs @illuminatrix_rising_dops 🤘
My journey in moving image began during my undergrad studies in Fine Art, where I had lots of fun experimenting with animation, video installation and art film. Keen to learn the craft, I went on to join the film industry as a camera trainee working in drama, commercials and documentaries. A few years later I began shooting shorts which eventually led me to doing my MA in Cinematography at the National Film and Television school.
I like to focus on narrative storytelling and enjoy nuanced, character-led stories that explore human condition through the genres of drama, thriller, dark comedy and science fiction. I believe film has an incredible power to build empathy, and I’m particularly drawn to scripts that question stereotypes, challenge the status quo and set out to break gender, economic and cultural barriers and prejudices.
Please head to my website olamesmer.com to check out my work and don’t hesitate to drop me a line - let’s grab a coffee and chat all things life and film! 😌☕️
