Finally uploading this to IG! This year I had the fortune of directing direct this short doc for @1fairwage_official in promotion for @lacocinamovie it is all about the harsh experiences of restaurant workers. Often overlooked and underpaid, these kitchen staff show us their true experiences of what goes on behind the curtain when we go out for a simple dinner. I had a lot of freedom with this project and decided to make it my own! I recently was blessed with the opportunity to direct a project with musician and motivational speaker @davidrushspeaks and 4x grammy award winning producer @iambkennedy . I had the chance to interview these two wonderful people about their experience with the rare kidney disease FSGS. We documented their collaborative efforts on the creation of the song “feels so good” meant to rally and call attention to the FSGS community and bring attention to FSGS awareness day which we all celebrated june 10. Its been a deeply personal project as i have been living with FSGS for 11 years and have not had a community of others to share that experience with. I even had the chance to hop in front of the camera and be interviewed as well. This project was definitely meant to be. New work for @nycparks Due New Yorks abundance of parks, as a kid it served as an escape, a place to socialize, and even allowed for my first introduction to sports. I’m glad to have been able to create something that supports their efforts in promoting NYC Parks. As a Native New Yorker and a child of Caribbean immigrant parents, I found Jamal’s story relatable and heartfelt. Late Night Radio A short I shot maybe a month ago I wanna say? It’s a short about “getting the shot” Those actors are models, the whole short film is actually a photo shoot, and the subtitles is the person behind the camera. Me. When you’re looking for that shot there is a lot of trial and error before you get it right. That radio static you hear is a audible parallel of what it’s supposed to be like when searching for that final image. We all know what it’s like to search for a playable station but you’re only getting static and some faint sounds from a radio station you can’t seem to tune into. When the radio becomes clear then the image becomes less grainy and becomes very clear and digital. And that’s the shot. That’s the station youve been looking for. I hope y’all enjoy this.
