Over the summer my mom wanted me to record some music that she could use for a guided meditation she was going to host and record over. At first this seemed really out of my wheelhouse but my brother who plays the saxophone on it, really guided this piece of music into what it eventually became. The whole thing originally began with a bunch of synth chords and folly sounds that in retrospect feel lacking when compared to the end product. I haven’t felt more proud of something I’ve made thus far. I’ve also never felt more fulfilled making a piece of music I’m glad it could be for my mom, and I’m glad I could make it with my brother. Family business.
Dancing by Yourself. This project means a lot to me. It feels like I was able to accurately convey how I felt during a specific period of time with music. And I want this project to not only reflect that but also serve as a guiding principle for my own life. It’s often that i have failed in motivating myself to do things for myself and no one else. This felt like a time I was able to successfully separate myself from my ego, self expectations, and overthinking. Dancing by Yourself is from a period of time where I felt like I had to create for the sake of distraction. And I made a lot of literal shit during that time. But that was absolutely the point.

Special thanks to @gibbsfreelance for making beats with me and @_slyme_tyme_ & @witchsmiles for cultivating the space in which I was able to work.
