✨MEET OLIVIA ‘OJ’ SLAUGHTER — photographer & visionary✨
‘As We Are.’ is a portrait series created in celebration of International Women’s Month, highlighting women and femme creatives who contribute to Boston’s vibrant cultural community. Through conversation, reflection, and visual storytelling, each participant shares insight into their creative practice, lived experiences, and evolving sense of identity. The series centers their voices, their journeys, and the ways they shape culture through their work. Together, these stories form a collective reflection on creativity, resilience, and community.

It is an honor to have OJ apart of this series. Their work and creativity has inspired me to this day — definitely one of the reasons I’m the creative I am today. Through every phase of their life they’ve shown me what true resilience is; how to remain true to oneself and craft. The way their work makes an impact on those around them, especially in black and queer communities, is truly inspiring. I’m eternally grateful to share space with OJ not only as a creative but as a friend 💞 Thank you @oj.slaughter for being apart of this project!!
Please make sure you all check out their work! Book them & buy their art!!

It’s been an intense week installing the show — this is an experiment transforming tiny slides and somehow adhering them to thick plastic sheets to suspend in space. Light flows through them - images the camera saw not as a memory keeper but as a premonition of future histories.
As Susan Sontag wrote “it is the camera that sees”

Two years ago today I almost permanently lost my vision to Intracranial Idiopathic Hypertension. It’s been a long journey but I think I’m finally exactly where I am supposed to be. 🥹😊 now I get to match the cherry blossoms while I wait to teach a college level class, and that’s pretty cool.
