The remarkable @Kerrywashington for @washingtonpost photographed by me ❤️ It brings me the utmost joy to be closing out year 2024 with this new body of work. It’s been a huge privilege to have been in Washington D.C and to have shared a space with none other than THE Kerry Washington herself! From watching her role as Olivia Pope to Mrs. Captain Charity Adams through a computer screen, to physically working with her irl just feels so farfetched….LIKE??? Heard you God! She’s someone whose work ethic I’ve long admired and have been deeply inspired by. She’s everything I imagined her to be — one of the purest, most sweetest souls I’ve ever exchanged my energy with. Exactly everything younger me envisioned this moment to feel like. (True story): Just days prior to receiving this assignment I caught myself questioning if any of my work was moving me in the direction forward and sure enough, God used his good graces to remind me I am right on track. Creating these images has been a huge labor of love and a testament to self and my journey. The most extreme, yet obvious reminder that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be, walking in my God given purpose and can’t nobody take that away from me. I am completely honored to have my images accompany this story in which it highlights Kerry’s recent leading role in @netflix ’s new @sixtripleeight_netflix movie directed by @tylerperry . To @mayanmvalentine , this was all made possible because of you and I can’t thank you enough for entrusting me. I am deeply grateful for your support and allowing me the creative freedom to make these images I’m so happy with!!! Gracefully bowing out of my twenties and two stepping into my thirties. Glory be to God wont he do it every time!!!! Thirty years ago today, purpose took form and by His grace, it continues to unfold. I don’t take lightly that He has allowed me to make it this far in my life. I am overjoyed, deeply grateful, and completely full. Closing out this chapter on my twenties feels utterly sacred. Those years stretched me, shaped me, broke me open, and built me back even stronger — stronger than I’ve ever been. I’ve met so many different, yet new versions of myself I never knew existed — the lost one, the healing one, the resilient one, the fearless one, the worst one and the best one. Through every wave, every season, every door that opened and closed, I was always being prepared for this very moment. None of it was by accident. Every lesson carried me here, exactly where I’m meant to be. This decade will be lived on purpose. With peace. With power. With gratitude. With love. With acceptance of every version of who I am. To my younger self, who once believed these dreams only existed in my imagination — the world we’re building will continue to show you that it’s not just a dream baby boy. I will continue to handle you with care. You are a vessel, and you are a light that shines so bright. Here is to another trip around the sun, happy 30th birthday King.
