Motherhood is wild! This is the first cake I made postpartum - for my Mumâs birthday. The creative release after nine months of navigating the physical and mental transformations of parenthood.
I remember feeling so uncertain about finding my way back to this part of myself again.
Thatâs when the mothers in my universe gently stepped in. It was a rare moment in which both my Mum and Mum-in-law were visiting us in Adelaide at the same time. They became a little dynamic duo, gently holding back the curious crawler while I found a moment to create again.
It took me three years from this date to confidently step back into this space again. Now, I get to embrace it all as a Mum, sharing the magic of baking with my eager helper. I certainly wouldnât have it any other way.
Hereâs to those who mother us as we learn to mother our little onesđ. What an incredible cycle of endless giving this journey is. Happy Motherâs Day to those celebrating today.

đźThis little number celebrated a special matriarch in our village a wee while ago.
My friendâs Mum came over to spend a year here as she welcomed her second child. So we took a moment to celebrate her. Because motherhood doesnât simply build families, it connects generations.
As someone who has moved across continents many times in my life, I understand the importance of a chosen family. The people who become your tribe in a new place called homeâŁď¸.
Itâs such a privilege when worlds collide and the people who shaped us meet the people who now walk alongside us. A beautiful reminder that home isnât just where we come from, but also what we build togetherđŤśđ˝.

POV: You planned a simple bake on holiday.
We are back in a place called home, watching my son soak up everything Sri Lanka has to offer.
The most beautiful part has been witnessing the easy friendships form with our neighbours. Weâre rarely needed as the kids flit between houses, their imaginations running wild and free. I love watching this unfiltered part of childhood unfold right in front of me.
Naturally, what started as a simple bake turned into a gathering of four curious little people closely monitoring my progress amidst their play.
It wasnât all smooth sailing. Just as the batter was ready, the oven didnât work. A quick call to another neighbour fixed the dilemma in no time⌠and just like that, a cake was baked next door.
We are embracing the joyful chaos that only happens when children feel at home together. Itâs messier and louder, but all that mattered was their absolute delight in a treat made alongside them.
It all feels like home.
This is what Little Hands, Big Treats looks like on the road - baking, connecting, and making memories that travel with you. Recipe for this frosting and more can be found in the Little Hands, Big Treats ebook.

I swapped my usual tart base for kataifi⌠and hereâs what happened: Caramel Macadamia Katifi Tarts.
Crispy? Yes.
Decadent? Absolutely.
When paired with caramel and ganache the katifi base holds beautifully. A crunchy kataifi crust, salted caramel, roasted macadamias and a dark chocolate filling *chefs kiss*. Keeping this one for future trials.
Continuing my kataifi experiments this Ramadan till the packet runs out!đ

đ Oh, the things you say!
My inbox has been quietly filling with messages that make me smile and make my heart soar. From seasoned bakers trying new easy recipes, to the Mum going rogue and pivoting measurements when she couldnât find her kitchen scales - Iâve heard from all of you!
⨠I love that the book feels like a safe space, giving you quiet confidence in the kitchen. This is exactly why Little Hands, Big Treats exists.
Batter that disappears before it hits the oven and cakes eaten straight off the pan are just the sort of moments that turn into memories.
Thank you for bringing this recipe book to life in your own kitchens.

Dubai chocolate felt like a rite of passage I missedâŚso hereâs my Ramadan version đ
I had a jar of @fixandfogg pistachio butter sitting in the pantry waiting for its moment, and I happened upon some kataifi in the fridge at my local grocer. Pair that with an iftar invite, and it turned into the perfect little experiment to bring along.
Itâs the crunch of Katifi that wins my heart with these bites. Itâs surprisingly simple to make too. Save this for those evenings when you want something special without the fuss.
INGREDIENTS
150g kataifi pastry
3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
300g pistachio cream
1 tbsp tahini
1 tsp sea salt
200g milk or dark chocolate chips
METHOD
1. Prepare the kataifi | Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Cut the kataifi into short pieces and gently separate any strands that are stuck together.
2. Place in a large bowl and pour over the melted butter. Use your hands to mix the butter through until evenly coated.
3. Spread onto a baking tray in an even layer and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until golden and crisp. Set aside to cool complete. (Optional: once cooked, cut the crisp Katifi into smaller pieces).
4. Make the filling | In a bowl, mix the pistachio cream, tahini and sea salt. Add the cooled kataifi and stir till combined.
5. Assemble | Melt the chocolate in the microwave or over a double boiler. Line a patty pan with paper liners. Spoon a little melted chocolate into each liner and gently spread it up the sides using the back of a spoon. Chill in the fridge for 5-10 minutes until set.
6. Add a spoonful of the pistachio kataifi filling to each cup, pressing it down gently. Drizzle more melted chocolate over the top. Decorate with crushed pistachios and edible flowers. Chill until fully set, then peel away the liners and dig in!

Hello there! It feels like the perfect moment to reintroduce myself đđ˝ââď¸
I am Afra, a SriâŻLankanâKiwi baker and the creative force behind Oh That Be Good. This is the space where I celebrate people and produce through creations from my kitchen in Australia.
As a mum to a little boy, I have learnt that baking is about connection, creativity, and making memories, especially with little hands helping. It is a full circle moment as I discovered my passion by dabbling with desserts at home as a teenager, encouraged by my father, who became a professional baker during a career pivot later in life.
I share the joy of baking through bespoke cakes, cake decorating workshops in Adelaide and my digital recipe book Little Hands, Big Treats.
Come journey with me as I create chaos in my kitchen, discover new recipes and curate treats that will leave you thinking âOh! That be good!â
