Here are some texture closeups and sketches from our ongoing effort to prototype a lamp made with rice paper and stainless steel. Like many of our products, this one draws inspiration from a type of food woven into everyday Vietnamese life.
The House of Rice Paper is a lamp erected on four pillars, its roof formed by two stacks of thin rice paper sheets facing inward, meeting at the center and rising to a gentle peak. There is something poetic about a house built from food.. to eat is to be sheltered.
Rice paper is a naturally quiet light diffuser. Its translucency softens the glow while its grainy texture lends the light a warmth that feels almost edible. To achieve a cleaner finish and ensure the material holds over time, each sheet goes through a chemical treatment process before it becomes part of the lamp. We are still trying to figure things out.

Xin chào bạn, là OHO đây. Như trong mớ lộn xộn của slide ảnh này, tụi mình vẫn âm thầm làm và thử nghiệm những thứ mới mẻ hơn, dù gần nửa năm qua đã im hơi lặng tiếng. Thực chất, OHO đã bắt đầu đơn thuần bởi tụi mình muốn vui. Vui trong việc vẽ vời hằng ngày, vui trong cái sự ‘chế cháo’, chắp vá như Frankenstein của những món đồ tụi mình thử làm ra. Và niềm hân hoan nhỏ bé đó, tụi mình đã bỏ quên hồi nào trong những lo toan, toan tính. Thế nên OHO đã thả lỏng một chút, đi đây đó, nhìn ngắm, suy tưởng,.. và thử làm những món đồ tụi mình muốn dù chúng không hợp lý về mặt kinh tế cho lắm.
Trong hình là một ví dụ, tụi mình có nhiều tên gọi cho nó: đèn Taco, Bánh Xèo, Bánh Kẹp,.. được làm từ vật liệu tấm nhựa PP và PETG. Trông có vẻ đơn giản nhưng tụi mình đã khá vất vả để làm ra nó. Sản phẩm này chỉ là một trong nhiều những prototype, và project thú vị khác mà tụi mình sẽ chia sẻ đến bạn trong thời gian sắp tới.

Hi, it's OHO. Buried somewhere in this chaotic stack of photos is proof that we've been busy, quietly making, experimenting, figuring things out,.. even after going dark for nearly half a year. OHO started because we genuinely enjoyed it. The daily sketching, the tinkering, the strange satisfaction of stitching together something that probably shouldn't work, but does (lol). Somewhere between the spreadsheets and the strategy sessions, we let that feeling slip away. So we made a deliberate choice to step back. Travel a bit. Observe. Let ideas breathe. And make things simply because we wanted to, not because they made financial sense.
What you're seeing here is one result of that. We've been calling it the Taco lamp, the Bánh Xèo lamp, the Sandwich lamp,.. It's made from PP sheet and PETG, and while it looks deceptively simple, it was painful to put together. This is just one of several prototypes and projects we're excited to bring you in the coming weeks.

Qua những phản hồi từ người dùng, OHO nhận thấy khoảng âm tạo ra bởi kích thước mặt ngoài và chân đèn tạo cảm giác "hụt" thị giác khi nhìn chính diện do tỉ lệ thiếu cân đối.
Do đó, V2 mở rộng mặt ngoài của đèn thêm khoảng 60%. Sự thay đổi này nhằm giải quyết khoảng hở lơ lửng và khuếch đại tính lặp lại (echo) giữa các lớp cấu trúc. Tỉ lệ mới này cũng tiệm cận hơn với một chiếc quạt điện trong thực tế.

Fan Lamp V2: Proportional Update.
Addressing feedback on the visual void created by the base's negative space, we expanded the outer face width by 60%.
This technical adjustment resolves the "floating" gap, grounding the structure while amplifying the geometric echo between the layers. The new ratio also aligns the silhouette closer to the industrial fan’s true proportions.

By magnifying the postage stamp, we reimagine its defining feature - the serrated edge, not as a point of separation, but as a space for connection. What was once a tiny functional detail for tearing paper becomes the lamp’s breathing room, a structural rhythm where the light finds its escape.

Prototype này là một thử nghiệm vật liệu của OHO. Tụi mình sử dụng độ trong và bề mặt gồ ghề của nhựa để giả lập lại sự khúc xạ của ánh sáng, ví von qua hình ảnh ánh trăng ‘vỡ’ ra trên mặt nước.
Dạng texture này tụi mình đã thử từ giữa năm ngoái, nhưng chưa thật sự có thời gian để phát triển thêm. Trong 2026, OHO hy vọng sẽ trưng ra nhiều prototype vô thưởng vô phạt hơn. Vui là được.

Moonriver
This prototype is a material study. We used the transparency and rough surface of the plastic to mimic how light refracts, capturing the image of the moon 'shattering' on the river.
We started playing with this texture last year but didn't have the time to dive deeper. In 2026, we hope to share more of these prototypes with no real agenda. Just for the fun of it.

Đèn Quạt lấy cảm hứng thiết kế từ chiếc quạt điện thân thuộc trong đời sống người Việt. Nó hiện diện từ quán ăn vỉa hè đến nhà phố, từ tươm tất đến bụi bặm đơn sơ.
Trong cảm quan đó, thiết kế của đèn Quạt phơi bày vẻ trần trụi của kết cấu lắp ghép từ nhiều module riêng biệt. Sự nhắc lại hình khối nhấn mạnh và phô diễn vật liệu để thể hiện trọn vẹn tinh thần công nghiệp.
Sự thô ráp đó được làm mềm đi bởi những lớp tán quang xuyên thấu để trả lại sự gần gũi và mềm mại cho tổng thể cấu trúc. Khi bật đèn, vệt sáng đổ qua ‘cánh quạt' hoạ lại từ những ô lam gió, khẽ khàng len lỏi vào nếp nhà Việt.

The Tem Lamp was conceived from the inspiration of the postage stamp, a small element in the daily lives of Vietnamese people that is gradually fading, yet carries the great expressive power of the movement of time, place, and consequently, the flow of history and culture.
The lamp's design translates that concept using a language inspired by the stamp's structure: rectangular shapes with serrated edges are assembled to form a layered structural block. The modular nature of these pieces also allows them to be flexibly arranged according to your preference, making the design rhythmic and orderly yet suggestive and open-ended.
Within the form of the Tem Lamp lies OHO Studios' effort to reconcile the layers of memory from a bygone era with new technological techniques, connecting history and the present moment.
The Tem Lamp will be available in two sizes (1 meter or 60 cm) and two primary color palettes. Pre-orders are open from today until the end of November 19, 2025. Please message us for more detailed information about this product!
