coming out of social hibernation likeâŚ
from eldest daughter crash out to entrepreneur burnout. spending the last few months resetting my nervous system just to do it all over again.
sometimes I forget this is the life I asked for & if I want to, I can always create another one. đ
For one night, @themonkeykingnyc was transformed â a moody Mughal nightclub of our own imagining. Blue velvet couches. Ambient gold light. Models draped in silks and stories. The scent of florals and cardamom in the air. It was bold, lived-in, intentional.
Typifying the vibe was Munzerin (Munzzy) Uddin (@ohmunzzy ), visionary founder of The Monkey King. A rebel with roots. A woman who defied expectations, traded engineering for empire-building, and built a Brooklyn restaurant that celebrates family, food, and fearless imagination. Her space is an extension of her: a feast of culture, generosity, and grit. Draped effortlessly in the CeCe dress, she embodied the essence of our brand â a beautiful tension between tradition and modernity, freedom and form. Each movement reflected her boundless identity, flowing seamlessly between worlds. A reflection of both her story and ours.
Together, we built our own world. A place that welcomes the many selves we carry. Where the boundaries between tradition and rebellion blur into something beautifully whole. Here, you donât have to shift or shrink to fit. Every layer of who you are has space to breathe.

Wow, we really did that. đđź
As we step into our anniversary month, we look back at the path that brought us here. From the fragile days of 2020, when the world felt uncertain and shadows of doubt lingered, to nowâthree years strong in operation still standing, still striving, still hungry for more.
We are not yet where our dreams place us, but we know this much: we are only at the beginning. These years have felt like a battlefield, fires breaking out on every side, testing our resolve. Yet from those flames we rose tempered, sharper, more disciplined, like a phoenix reborn and ready to face whatever comes next.
We always knew the journey wouldnât be easy. We braced ourselves for the heavy days, the sleepless nights, the moments where surrender felt closer than triumph. And yes, there were days when every choice seemed like a mistake. But in the darkness, there was always lightâthe light of community. Your words, your support, your belief in us those were the sparks that kept us moving forward.
We walked away from corporate worlds in search of something deeper, our truest potential. Through food, culture, and the art of hospitality, weâve uncovered strengths and truths we didnât know we carried. The Monkey King has been more than a project; it has been a teacher, a vessel of growth, and a bridge to the friendships and community we now cherish.
And so, as the season turns, let this be your sign: chase that dream. Step into the unknown. What waits for you beyond the fear may be greater than anything you could have ever imagined.
Cheers đĽ
Too many communities in the diaspora still donât get the recognition they deserve â and Iâll say it every time: the Bengali/Bangladeshi community in NYC is stacked with talent and numbers. Thereâs no reason why more brands shouldnât be backing us and helping put our culture on the global map.
Through The Monkey King, weâve realized weâre not just amplifying our own voices â weâre carrying our generationâs call for more representation âźď¸
Major shoutout to @bengalisofnewyork and my girl @noshineee for making waves with @bengalifilmfestival this year đđź I left last yearâs event so inspired, I knew we had to open up @themonkeykingnyc for an afterparty that matched the energy. & â nothing hits like a TMK party đ
Huge love to our team for coming through with Bengali-inspired cocktails, free passed bites, and bringing the hospitality. Special thanks to @la.sireina for the vibes đś
At the end of the day, support or not, when itâs for the community, the community always shows up. đ§đŠâ¤ď¸đđź
