Today we’re highlighting @ohdecay ’s recent work mixing @miiamusic ’s ‘I Can Tell a Lie’, mastered by @beckermastering . The record opens with the lines, “I tell you I love you when I need to say goodbye. I need to trust in all the lies I tell you.” This record is evocative of this sentiment immediately. There’s a restraint to the verses, a closeness that pulls you in before the floor drops out. When the chorus hits, it’s massive. Strings swell, percussion deepens, layers bloom outward until it feels almost infinite. That pain sings out in the vocal, anchoring the mix while everything around it expands. The dynamic shifts between sections of the song range from delicate to brash, changing the emotional frame of reference without losing focus. By the outro, it’s transcendent — a mix that builds from quiet vulnerability to something boundless. With an abrupt burst of static, it’s over. Emotion is the root of art and this is a perfect display of translating that emotion throughout the mixing process.
