In Middelfart Jürgen Neumann, Tuomo Tammenpää and Julian Priest, the three artists (or the self-proclaimed “tech guys”) working on a crazy utopian vessel project called Ohanda. One jumped on board Gozilla, to dream big about their project while on an actual seafaring vessel.
Ohanda. One @ohandaone is an open hardware and open science, speculative design project, where the artists design, build and operate a futuristic zero emission ocean vessel for about 100 people.
The tech guys brought with them lucky sailing weather and we had two amazing days first sailing from Middelfart to Ærøskøbing in the island of Ærø, and the next day across the ocean to Kiel in Germany. The whole two days were pretty much sailing and having good conversations. It was especially amazing for me (the typical Berlin-going millennial reporting from the boat:)) to hear Jürgen’s stories about how he was present when the Berlin Wall came down and went to squat in the East side as soon as it happened… Conversations varied from current German political climate which seemed appropriate while crossing over the border, to Merja’s unhinged story-telling never limited by any concern for the listeners tolerance for disgust, to crazy sailing stories.
Still, we kept spotting the porpoise!
The guys left us with a weird little gadget that connects to wireless networks along the way and will eventually draw our route on the map (picture!!). At the end of our trip we’ll send it back to them. They also measured the boat movements while sailing, as research for the Ohanda. One -project.
Julian’s words on the morning they were leaving: “I want to stay on this boat forever!” <3

Ohanda.one crew salutes Godzilla crew: Andy, Merja & Iida. We had en excellent voyage. Godzilla is a sea-beast, now we will build our own. #ohandaone #imagininggodzilla
Ohanda One team, Jürgen, Julian and Tuomo sends the warmest thanks to all who participated in dreaming the future of zero emission sea travel with us. Special thanks to Piksel24 team, once again, you took good care of us. Remember, Ohanda One welcomes anyone interested in its broad set of topics to join. Our next steps include reaching out to the academia / research collaborations and preparing for the simulation camp in Finland next year. Thank you @nordiskkulturkontakt for the travel support #ohandaone #piksel #openhardware #zeroemission #speculativedesign #utopia #navalarchitecture #marineengineering @pikselfest
