Contractor Attributes Lagos–Abeokuta Road Traffic Delays to Heavy Rains
The firm handling the reconstruction of the 69km Lagos–Abeokuta Road, Craneburg Construction Company, has expressed regret over the traffic challenges experienced around the Toll Gate and Itori–Papalanto axis, explaining that ongoing heavy rainfall has affected the work schedule.
Craneburg’s Area Manager, Mr. Nicholas Mfarrej, offered the apology during a briefing with members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Oludaisi Elemide, who was represented by his Deputy, Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Tuesday.
Mfarrej noted that the persistent rainfall had slowed construction activities and caused damage to some completed sections. He, however, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to maintaining internationally accepted construction standards.
He appealed for continued patience from residents and lawmakers, stating that traffic flow has already improved in some affected spots. He added that the pace and quality of work would increase during the dry season, with the project expected to be fully completed by the end of next year.
Also speaking, Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, said the contractor had been instructed to ensure both lanes are passable. He accepted responsibility for the recent congestion and promised more effective oversight moving forward.
At the end of the meeting, the House directed Craneburg to speed up work and stick strictly to construction specifications, while the Ministry of Works was tasked with ensuring closer supervision to prevent further disruptions.
The Grand Finale of Odun Omo Olowu 2025 was a showcase of pure Royalty and culture.
What a majestic Festival!
Congratulations to all sons and daughters of Owu Kingdom 💝
