Chemical Odour Incident: Ogun Govt Activates Emergency Response in Ijebu Ode The Ogun State Government has activated emergency environmental and public health response measures following another chemical odour incident that affected students across several schools in Ijebu Ode. Government officials, including the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, visited affected students receiving treatment, while OGEPA confirmed that elevated methane concentrations were detected within parts of the affected area through the state’s air quality monitoring system. The government has since deployed a multi-agency team comprising environmental regulators, emergency response officials, and health experts to investigate the situation and ensure public safety. Residents have been advised to remain calm, avoid open flames in affected areas, and promptly report symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, headaches, or respiratory discomfort to nearby health facilities. The Ogun State Government remains committed to protecting lives, public health, and environmental safety as investigations continue.

Ogun Moves Towards 24-Hour Power Supply, Begins Electricity Consumption Audit Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to carry out a comprehensive electricity consumption audit as part of efforts to improve power distribution efficiency and achieve stable 24-hour electricity supply across the state. The governor disclosed this during an inspection visit to the 4-megawatt gas-fired Independent Power Plant in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where he explained that the audit would help government monitor electricity distribution, curb leakages, and tackle energy theft. Abiodun described power as the foundation of industrialisation and economic development, noting that the Ogun State Light-Up Project is aimed at making the state energy self-sufficient while ensuring no community is underserved. He added that both the Oke-Mosan 4-megawatt plant and the 34-megawatt Onijanganjangan power project were designed for future expansion. The governor also revealed that the newly established Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission would oversee electricity generation, transmission, and distribution in the state, stressing that the administration’s goal is to position Ogun as the preferred investment destination with reliable and affordable 24-hour power supply.

Ogun State Expands Power Infrastructure with Strategic Energy Investments The Ogun State Government has intensified efforts to achieve energy security through a series of strategic investments under its Light Up Ogun agenda. Central to this initiative is the Oni Jagan-Jagan Independent Power Plant, a flagship project delivering 34 megawatts of gas-powered electricity to key areas including Abeokuta township, Oke-Mosan, and major government offices, parastatals, and Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). In furtherance of its commitment to reliable power supply, the administration has also enhanced electricity infrastructure at critical locations such as the Gateway International Airport. A 1-megawatt gas-fired system has been installed to ensure uninterrupted power for airport operations, the ARISE development, and newly established customs facilities, reinforcing the state’s drive toward operational efficiency and economic growth. The government reiterated that these interventions are part of a broader vision to make Ogun State energy-secure and self-reliant. Gov. Abiodun: Olumo Rock Revenue Jumps After Restoration Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has revealed that the restoration of Olumo Rock has significantly boosted its revenue generation. According to the governor, the tourist site was generating between ₦3 million and ₦4 million annually before his administration undertook a comprehensive refurbishment. He noted that the facility now generates about ₦10 million weekly, translating to roughly ₦40 million monthly. Abiodun said the turnaround underscores the state government’s commitment to revitalizing heritage assets and strengthening tourism as a key driver of economic growth.

ABIODUN APPROVES DAY OFF, ₦10,000 TRANSPORT SUPPORT FOR OGUN WORKERS Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved a set of palliative measures for public servants, including one day off per week and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance to cushion the effects of rising fuel prices and the high cost of living. The initiative, which will run for three months from April 2026, is designed to ease commuting challenges and improve workers’ welfare. While certain categories of workers such as medical personnel, teachers, judicial staff, and security officers are exempt from the weekly day-off arrangement due to the critical nature of their duties, they will still benefit from the transport allowance. According to the State Head of Service, Accounting Officers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies will coordinate the implementation to ensure that service delivery is not disrupted. The government noted that the intervention is aimed at supporting workers during this period while also encouraging greater commitment, discipline, and productivity across the public service.
