✨teena and @travisxthompson take on @offtherez ✨
to try… FRY BREAD 😋
travis— rapper, actor, cool guy and someone who grew up on the Navajo reservations comes with me while I try different variations of fry bread, a dish of the indigenous people that is a flat dough bread, fried or deep-fried in oil. while fry bread is usually served with savory foods, it can also be turned into Indian tacos, pow wow burgers and a dessert!
@offtherez is native-owned (blackfeet tribe) and started by mark + cecilia. their food truck is seattle’s first native food truck, specializing in Native indigenous foods made by scratch and by hand. throughout the years they’ve grown into multiple businesses such as their café that serves indigenous food + coffee, catering and of course, their food truck that travels all around the city.
each bite of the different versions of fry bread were absolutely fluffy and delicious. you can tell it was made with love and knowing the history of fry bread made it better. from travis telling me his childhood connection with this dish, to knowing that fry bread is traditional dish showcasing survival + strength for many indigenous people. it’s a symbol of how they persevered, turning a box filled with disparate goods into a unique and iconic dish.
like I always say, the food taste better when u know the story behind it! go try some yourself ASAP ✨
