Performer Spotlight: Vaishnavi
Vaishnavi is the creative director, choreographer, and one of the performers for the opening performance at Fragments of Us. With over 16 years of experience, she has a background in classical dance and experience across a range of self-taught contemporary dance forms.
For Vaishnavi, dance is a way to explore ideas that move people; to cause them to pause, to feel, to question, and to sit with something they might not have words for yet.
This performance explores two distinct yet converging stories centred around identity, unfolding simultaneously.
Each story explores a different relationship to identity, but both are united by a common thread: a sense of competition, with identities pulling in different directions until an understanding of fragmentation, co-existence, acceptance, and wholeness is fully explored.
Experience the performance at the opening night of Fragments of Us, an exploration of Sri Lankan identity as lived across fracture, memory, and belonging.

Artist Spotlight: Peter Ponnaiyah
Peter Ponnaiyah completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) at the Eastern University of Sri Lanka in 2023, where he later worked as an Assistant Lecturer.
Shaped by experiences during the final phase of the Vanni war, his work reflects memories of displacement, loss of life, and psychological trauma witnessed firsthand.
His practice explores war-related tragedies, the erosion of human rights, unresolved post-war suffering, and the environmental consequences of conflict, including ecological disruption and the continued threat of unexploded landmines.
Experience Peter’s work at Fragments of Us, an exploration of Sri Lankan identity as lived across fracture, memory, and belonging.
