Industrial design education honestly hasn’t evolved much in the last decade. Many schools are still teaching outdated content that doesn’t reflect current trends, emerging technologies, or what the industry actually expects today. Yet tuition at some of the biggest “name brand” design institutions are still high. At some point, you have to ask yourself: are you truly getting the value out of your education that you’re paying for?
So naturally, we started looking at the data from some of these “name brand” institutions to compare where Offsite stands. No, we’re not a fully built-out university—we don’t have campuses, stadiums, sports teams, or massive buildings. But what we do offer is curriculum and programming that directly reflects what many industrial design programs are trying to teach today, often with more current industry insight and accessibility.
So the question becomes… why not Offsite?

Today we celebrate National Industrial Design Day.
Industrial Design is fun, exciting, and always evolving. At times it’s unpredictable—and even unfair—but it’s also deeply creative, visual, and tangible. It’s an experience, a strategy, a point of view; something that can feel abstract while remaining grounded in the real world.
So, how do you define industrial design? ✨
Offsite is officially open for Early Bird registration. Over the next 10 weeks, you’ll learn directly from some of the industry’s leading designers through intensive courses focused on sketching, workflow, manufacturing, portfolio development, strategy, storytelling, and more. Whether you’re a student breaking into industrial design or a professional looking to sharpen your skills, Offsite is built to help push your work — and your thinking — further.
Early Bird pricing ends in one week before tuition increases. If you’ve been thinking about joining, now’s the best time to secure your spot.

Our last Offsite Japan instructor spotlight features:
📦 Manufacturing with Dominic Montante
For the first time in our fall lineup, this beginner-friendly course covers the real-world process of taking a product from concept to market, including manufacturing methods, materials, and the impact of design decisions.
Most academic design projects stop short of real-world production, but this course bridges that gap by focusing on what it actually takes to get a product made. Students learn how manufacturing realities—cost, feasibility, materials, and regulations—shape design outcomes, and why integrating manufacturability early gives designers greater control.
Through hands-on learning in plastics, metals, glass, ceramics, and wood, along with IP, packaging, and cost considerations, students prepare simulated documentation for real-world vendor quoting, taking ideas from concept to tangible reality.

🎬 Monozukuri with Ana Arriola-Kanada
This course explores monozukuri—the spirit of making—through the perspectives of immigrants and long-term residents in contemporary Japan. Students translate cultural insight into globally relevant design outcomes rooted in empathy and context.
ものづくり、Contemporary Perspective explores what monozukuri—the spirit of making—means in an era of global interconnection and rapid change. Through the lens of immigrants and long-term residents in Japan, students examine contemporary innovation spanning traditional craft, minimalist form, advanced robotics, and deeply contextual design systems.
Over ten weeks, studio projects, field observation, and conversations with practitioners guide students to interpret Japanese innovation from an outside-in perspective, producing products, services, or systems that are rooted in local insight yet globally relevant. The course emphasizes cultural intelligence, empathy, and translation—defining a personal creative voice while designing with culture, not just for it.
