There are times that voice still creeps in, the one that tells you you’re not supposed to be here. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, that feeling can still find its way through.
But I’ve learned that voice isn’t who I am, it’s just fear trying to distract me from purpose. When it shows up, I remind myself why I’m here and who I represent. Because when your direction is clear and your intentions are pure, doubt has no real power. It might whisper, but it doesn’t get to lead. ❤️🤲🏽
Something I’ve loved about having this podcast is it’s given me a voice beyond the game. Rugby taught me discipline and resilience, but this platform gave me the confidence to chase the things that truly inspire me, like building my clothing brand. The game will always be a part of me, but it’s not all of me. I love seeing athletes step into new spaces like fashion, business, podcasts, even politics and use their voice to show there’s life, purpose, and passion beyond the field.
Success doesn’t grow where comfort lives. It’s easy to stay where things feel familiar, where there’s no risk of failure or discomfort. But that’s also where potential goes quiet. Real growth begins the moment you step past what feels safe, when you choose challenge over ease and lean into the unknown.
🤲🏽❤️
What he’s been able to achieve speaks for itself. The numbers don’t lie. @_nathancleary done more in five years than most managed in their whole careers. Credit where it’s due 🐐 but still… up the Bronx nation 🐴

Contentment doesn’t come from reaching a destination, it’s found in the rhythm of purpose. For me, it’s about turning up every day with intention. I wake up for my wife and my kids. I show up to provide, to protect, to carry the weight of what needs to be done like paying the bills, creating stability, being someone they can count on. That’s where my purpose lives.
But every day, I carve out time to train. That’s the part that’s just for me. It’s not about the body, it’s about the mind. It’s where I reset, where I get to push myself without needing a reason. That balance between self and service is what keeps me grounded.
The evolution of the game as I see it. Around 10 years ago, real structure started showing up across all teams. When I first started, you had your starter play or maybe a 3-phase sequence but that was about it. Defenses were mainly organized around the ruck, with the back three swinging on a pendulum. Everything else was instinct and effort.
But things changed fast. Lineouts became complex. Scrums started with players in behind, peeling into new roles. Defenses stopped caring about jersey numbers, you defended where you were needed. Fullbacks stepped into the line, props made reads out wide, and the traditional setup was getting re-written in real time.
The old heads didn’t like it. A lot couldn’t understand it. But for those of us in it, the evolution was clear and exciting. The game was getting faster, smarter, more unpredictable.
Now, anything feels possible. Lineouts have endless variations. Tap moves and counter attack are treated like set pieces. Scrums launch attacks.
So where does it go next?
We’re only just scratching the surface. The game’s pushing forward—whether people like it or not.
Understanding financial literacy is crucial in today’s game. The money that comes in can feel like everything, but it won’t last forever. It can give you short-term gratification, but long-term fulfillment has to come from something deeper.
For me, that deeper purpose came through faith.
So to the next generation of superstars: enjoy your success, and be proud of the work it took to get here. But remember, getting here is just the foot of the mountain. To keep climbing, you’ll need something solid to hold onto when things get tough.
For me, that foundation was faith.
What will yours be?
Find your greater purpose, and you’ll have the discipline and drive to keep going, no matter what challenges come your way.
You’ve got to get your reps in at training, there’s no way around it. If you’re not willing to get uncomfortable, you’ll slow down your own growth. And if you play a team sport, that affects the whole group.
Real growth happens in uncomfortable moments. Training is where you should be making mistakes, pushing boundaries, and learning. That’s the whole point, we spend most of our time there, Monday to Friday, sharpening our tools. It’s called training for a reason.
So don’t be afraid to get it wrong. Perfection might be the goal we chase, but what we’re really after is progress! day by day, session by session. ❤️
Building strong partnerships whether in sport, business, or life is about more than just words. It’s about understanding, reading body language, and picking up on unspoken cues. Real trust is built when communication goes beyond just talking.
For example, with my wallaby teammate @samukerevi_ , we reached a point where we didn’t need to explain everything. If I played him a ball at a time he might not have wanted it, it wasn’t just a pass, it was a message. And he understood it. We developed a level of trust where actions spoke just as loud as words. That kind of connection allows you to see the game and life through each other’s eyes, which only makes you both better.
Rugby gave me that, but the process of learning, growing, and finding ways to improve both as a player and as a man is something I’ll always love. The best partnerships, on and off the field, are built on that same foundation: trust, understanding, and a willingness to see the game from the other person’s perspective.
