Come to may art show on may 14th it's going be cool I promise
Sybilism is an exploration of technology, psychology, and their cycles of interplay. A Sybil attack, a now antiqued vulnerability in networking infrastructure was originally named after it's exploitation identity protocols. The name was inspired by "Sybil" a novel about a woman's treatment for dissociative identity disorder. Nicholas Bowen, also known as offlineartisan, subverts the genre of glitch art by questioning it's core identity. An artistic discipline defined for it's use of intentional software/hardware glitches, he instead deploys precise modern effects to capture the aesthetic directly.
In today's world, we're all forced to fracture our sense of self depending on the situation. Online, offline, work, school, raves, festivals, and more might see us behave in entirely different ways. Some find it exhausting, others revel in the opportunity to play pretend. In a way, the analogy to Sybil has gotten stronger, but shapeshifted in meaning. Come explore this cognitive plane between reality and the ephemeral with us.
Sybilism will run during the capitol hill artwalk on may 14th, from 5pm-9pm at Passable
