The title of the show is inspired by an excerpt from Wanda Coleman’s “Notes of a Cultural Terrorist 2”
after the war the war begins the war goes on
i am a soldier. look at my boots
soles worn from seeking work. from hours in unemployment lines
call me a civilian casualty
the war to feed children the war to clothe their backs the war to meet the rent the war to keep the gas tank full the war to end the calculated madness keeping the poor poor
what happens to a war deferred does it implode? does repressed aggression ravage the collective soul?
(there’s rioting now. i see the blaze red smoke rising. the city burns. people are looting, taking things. all the excess denied them. crimes of possession. to have. without the onus of color or fear of rejection. children carry racks of clothes. women push shopping carts brimming with food. men favor liquor stores and gunshops. but what we need is revolution. bloodless or otherwise. we must go deeper than lust gratified in one spontaneous torrid upsurge of rage)
i am a soldier. look at my hair
fallen out under stress. the many hours unappreciated on the job. not even a decent chair

Ahead of the gallery’s Summer reopening, @officialxghost is pleased to host friend and collaborator, David Stamp’s auditory piece, “8 Brains” this coming weekend, May 28th & 29th from 4-8pm. @foreverstamp
8 Brains is an immersive sound installation exploring sight as an out of body experience, and sound as one that coats you in your own skin. Work is inspired by the modern human experience, which often prioritizes sight knowledge over other forms of knowing. 8 brains is a reference to the brains that are in an octopus’s arms. The 8 brains reaching out, probing and grasping at the world, is useful as a metaphor for the peripersonal space surrounding and including our bodies. This thought seats the mind in the entire body and the immediate space surrounding it and not just in the brain.
Light quickly degrades as it travels through water. Paired with how efficiently water particles transfer sound, this makes the oceanic world an infinitely dark world of sound. The humpback’s whalesong can travel as far as 10,000 miles at certain depths. A whale’s sphere of communication and by extension its mind, reaches far into the ocean.
Though air isn’t as effective a conduit for sound as water, we still find ourselves suspended in this invisible media that carries sound information to us, that coats us in information. This booth is an experiment in how that information can be amplified and used as a tool to reset our bodies/minds.
