Barbados Film & Television Association recently participated in a series of engagements with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China (@chineseembassybb ), including last Friday evening’s China-Aid Human Resources Training Programme reception.
Our President, Senator Jamal Slocombe, and Chief Executive Officer, Benjamin Henry, were in attendance alongside Board Directors Kashka Mottley, Travis Springer, and DeVito Wallace.
We are pleased to confirm that over the coming months, members of the Board as well as representatives from the wider membership will be selected to participate in training and development opportunities in China.
Barbados continues to value the relationship with the People’s Republic of China. 🇧🇧🇨🇳

Every time I walk into Parliament, I am reminded not just of the importance of the work we do, but of the lives that depend on it.
My mission is a simple one, but I hope it carries weight. To create opportunity for those who feel the world has left no room for them, those from humble beginnings, without the privilege of affluent communities, brand-name schools, or well-known family names.
Because public service must mean this, that no one is invisible, and no one is without a chance.

Yesterday marked my first contribution in the Upper House.
I must confess, I never fully imagined just how heavy the weight of public service can be, nor how immense the expectations would prove to be. Some will question your choices; others will challenge your decisions. That is the nature of leadership.
Yet I am neither daunted nor deterred. I remain steadfast in my commitment to act in the best interest of my country and to serve the people of this nation with integrity, courage, and an independent and unwavering sense of duty.

Yesterday’s Opening of Parliament was both reflective and grounding, a solemn reminder of the responsibility we carry and the serious work ahead in our nation building journey.
I was pleased to join my contemporaries, Government Senators Shane Archer and Roshanna Trim, members of the “young brigade” in the Upper House, as well as Opposition Senator Ryan Walters, with whom I shared a brief light moment amid the formality of the occasion.
The work has begun, and I am ready to serve.

Earlier this afternoon, I was sworn in by the President of Barbados, His Excellency Lieutenant Colonel The Most Honorable Jeffrey Bostic, to serve as a Senator for the incoming parliamentary term. I undertake this responsibility with a deep sense of duty and commit to serving with integrity, independence of thought, humility, and an abiding respect for all Barbadians. 🇧🇧

Award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay was presented with a commissioned painting by Jamal Slocombe, President of the Barbados Film & Television Association. Created by Barbadian artist Shane Eastmond, the piece will also appear in the upcoming local short film Fading Colors.
The presentation took place as DuVernay bid farewell to CARIFESTA XV, hosted in Barbados. Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Henry was also in attendance.
This marks her second engagement with the Barbadian film industry, following a virtual conversation earlier this year and the recent Fireside Chat.
“Ava, you’re now family. Know you’re always welcomed in Barbados,” said Slocombe, reflecting the pride and admiration of the local creative community.
And just like that, it’s a wrap! 🏏🏆
Last evening, I had the honour of serving as Producer for one of the most magical moments in cricket history, a tribute to the legendary 1975 World Cup champions, led by the incomparable Captain Sir Clive Lloyd.
Thank you to Cricket West Indies President Dr. Kishore Shallow and Chief Executive Officer Chris Dehring for their continued trust and confidence in me.
This was a true team effort. Together with an incredible committee and service providers, we brought it to life!

We were honored to have Dr. Kishore Shallow, President of Cricket West Indies, join us at the BIM 10 Cricket final. In this memorable moment, he is photographed alongside Chairman Hallam Nichols and Founder Jamal Slocombe, celebrating the spirit of the game. 🏏
There’s something truly transcendent about getting lost in the music and sharing those experiences on stage. I’ve been singing since I was a child, but along the way, I got involved in many other pursuits, traveling to different countries and working with incredible people across various fields. Yet, nothing brings me greater comfort than returning to the stage, especially with musicians who share the same passion and talent.
I’m thrilled to keep this journey alive, especially with 1816 Rebel, as we explore and celebrate what it means to be revolutionary as Barbadian musicians with big dreams. Through our music, we continue to liberate ourselves and inspire others.
Once again, thank you to Hunterspring for allowing us to share the evening with you in front of a full audience. Somehow, we always manage to get people out to the show, and there’s no better feeling than performing for such an engaged crowd.
And yes, we’re proudly wearing @shakadecolifestyle ! Huge thanks to @thencfbarbados for making our wardrobe the talk of the town since May, starting with our trip to the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival. NCF has supported this vision from day one, and we’re forever grateful.

Earlier today, our President Jamal Slocombe along with the BFTA delegation at @tiff_net had the opportunity to connect with Canada-based Barbadian production designer Danielle Brathwaite-Lynch.
Danielle has built an impressive career in Toronto’s film industry, working as a Second Assistant Art Director on major productions such as Workin’ Moms, Titans, and What We Do in the Shadows. Her work will also be featured in the upcoming Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
Danielle has committed to supporting us at the Barbados Film & Television Association by facilitating training and capacity development for our local practitioners.
This initiative is proudly supported by @thencfbarbados and @exportbarbadosbidc
