I booked a one-way flight to Israel at the beginning of the war without an exact plan but with a burning desire to share stories of what was really going on.
This was as personal as it can get. After the initial shock and many days of feeling hopeless, I knew I needed to do something.
I was not going to sit on the sidelines anymore. I needed to use my skills to orient myself in a productive direction that would hopefully bring some light to what was a very dark time for me personally and collectively for the Jewish people.
After a few weeks of working on a small project and doing some independent journalism, I got a message from
@danielfinkelman1 who I hadn't seen in 10 years.
An hour later, we had coffee at Cafe Sira in Jerusalem, where he told me what he was working on and that he wanted me to be part of the project. To film a making of documentary for the series that bridges the gap between the real characters and the cast and crew. A story of people still grappling with their own loss and grief, finding refuge in coming together to tell their story.
I knew in that moment that this was it.
The reason I'd come to Israel.
And the way I'd fulfill my purpose.
Now, 2 years later. The series is streaming on HBOmax. Telling 7 human stories that will never be forgotten.
