I’m so delighted to announce the release of my next book, THE BOOK OF EMPERORS, in collaboration with the wonderful writer @ashwitha_writes and editor @smits_bookery . This illustrated history narrates the rise and fall of one of the richest, most powerful empires the world has ever seen, through the stories of the men and women who shaped it. From Babur’s humble beginnings in 1526 all the way down to the abject humiliation and exile of Bahadur Shah Zafar in 1857, this is, at its heart, a story about people striving to make a life, capture power, find love and meaning, and carve out a place for themselves in history. It is lavishly illustrated to show what life in the empire was like, from the quiet gardens the Mughals built, to the vast tent cities that they travelled all over the country with, to the bustling marketplaces that attracted traders from all over the world. It has taken us four years to find the right words and art that would do justice to the extraordinary, odd, and yet strangely familiar world of the Mughals, and we hope you will enjoy the result of our labours.
