These sliding glass doors were just under six metres tall and are still one of the tallest sets we have designed and installed. (See the linked reel for photos of how the project looked before.)
The double-height kitchen really benefited from over-sized sliding doors which complemented the proportions of the open plan space with its mezzanine living area.

We loved designing the glazing package for this luxury new build property near Bristol. The owners had very clear requirements and wanted to explore a range of products for different parts of their incredible new home.
Having bifolds opening onto the pool patio was on their wish list for example, but they were concerned about how much space they would take up when open. Choosing slimmer doors and flush tracks meant that we were able to achieve what they needed for this particular room, whereas in other areas slim-framed sliding doors were the better option.
The impressive approach to the house with its generous driveway demanded an equally dramatic entrance. Here’s where a large expanse of curtain wall is hard to beat in terms of wow factor.

A successful renovation or building project should stand the test of time.
This is the reason we keep referring to the Highbury project designed by @edwards_rensen_architects and why it has achieved so much attention in architectural and design publications, as well as TV airtime.
Despite its generous footprint, the layout of the Victorian property just didn’t work for the new owners. The lower ground floor - the obvious place for a large open plan kitchen diner - was dark and badly connected to the ground floor.
After moving the staircase and utilising huge panels of aluminium glazing to open up the lower ground floor, the space is now unrecognisable.

Different objectives needed to be met by the glazing at the front of this property compared to the back.
At the front it was all about making a dramatic and immediate impact - so we designed oversized panels of curtain wall for the double height hallway above the large front door, resulting in an entrance filled with natural light.
Whereas at the back, the main objective was to create greater connection with the garden, for that much-coveted indoor/outdoor flow. So large expanses of sliding glass doors were specified on both the ground floor and the first floor.
The sliding doors on the ground floor- totalling ten metres in width - incorporated several glass to glass corners. Not only do they break up the expanse, they also help create distinct zones in the large open plan kitchen and living area. Slim-framed glazing was specified on this floor to minimise interruption of the views onto the garden.
For the first floor bedrooms, sliding doors were also used, this time with a slightly thicker frame to keep the costs down.

Half of them chose NOT to have sliding or bifolding doors.
Because in smaller spaces, you might need the back wall for furniture, or kitchen cabinetry. You might want part of the space to open up to the garden but not ALL of it.
