Hasik, Southern Oman
A place where every session feels like stepping into the unknown.
Bookings for Hasik are now open, and if adventure is what drives you, this one belongs firmly on the list.
Just two hours from Salalah, Hasik opens the door to a completely different side of Oman. Remote coastlines, beach launches at first light, bait pushing through the shallows, and endless water to explore between Hasik and Shuwaymiyah.
This is the kind of fishery where anything can happen. Africanus and Blochii permit moving through the wash, XL queenfish terrorising baitballs, mahi appearing out of nowhere, broomtail wrasse cruising the reef edges, and species like two bar bream, Omani bream and plenty more keeping every session unpredictable.
Some days are spent covering water on foot, picking apart rocky points and quiet beaches. Others unfold offshore, chasing life wherever the tides and birds decide to lead you. No two sessions feel the same.
You’ll stay right in the village, immersed in the rhythm of the coastline, with good food, comfortable accommodation, and a proper base to reset before doing it all again the next day.
From the luxury of Salalah, to the remoteness of the Hallaniyat Islands, Hasik sits perfectly in the middle, raw, adventurous, and packed with possibility.
Launching October 2026

Salalah, Southern Oman.
Salalah is where comfort and class meet one of the most exciting permit fisheries in the world. Fly in, step off the plane, and within half an hour you’re checked into Hawana Marina, with five star accommodation on the water, great restaurants, a relaxed promenade, and all the comfort you need before the next day’s session.
What makes this corner of Oman so unique is the Kharif. The annual monsoon transforms the coastline, pushing cool, nutrient rich water into the region and turning Salalah into one of the most productive fisheries in the Middle East. It’s what gives this stretch of coast its character, and what makes the fishing here so consistently special.
For many, Salalah’s real draw is the permit. Southern Oman is one of the most exciting places in the world to target permit on fly, with shots at both the much sought after Africanus Permit, a fish that has firmly placed this coastline on the global fly fishing map. Powerful, unpredictable, and notoriously difficult to fool, it’s the kind of fish that brings people back time and again.
Beyond the permit, the bluewater fishing is exceptional. XXL queenfish, sailfish, mahi, tuna and a host of other species all add to what is already one of the most diverse fisheries in the region.
Salalah is built for anglers who want serious fishing without compromising on comfort. Five star accommodation, seamless logistics, exceptional food, and some of the most unique fly fishing in the world.

Firsts.
There are a limited number of “firsts” that we experience in this lifetime. However, when it comes to fly fishing, there spaces in our memory banks that can never be replaced.
For many, the Permit is seen as one of the grails in this game. And, to go through the process of attaining this unique fish is one that few will understand, until you connect to one.
Southern Oman presents one of the few places in the world where making this dream come true, a reality.
What many won’t tell you, is that the process leading up to this is often not as glamour as many would describe. Permit have a unique way of making the proverbial “wheels come off’”. No matter how dialled, or skilful you may be, getting the perfect shot at these fish takes a large element of luck, and some very skilful guiding.
Here’s an account of someone who never thought this would be a reality. After multiple shots, this one stuck. And the rest is history.
Our 2026/2027 Southern Oman season is open for bookings. If experiencing one of fly fishings pinnacle species is on your bucket list, reach out and let’s make it happen!

There’s something mesmerising about Permit in Southern Oman.
Watching tails appear between the swell covered rocks, glinting in the white water before disappearing just as quickly as they arrived. One moment there’s nothing, the next your entire focus narrows onto a single moving shape in the wash.
It’s a style of fishing that keeps you completely locked in. Reading the surge, timing the cast, waiting for the right window as the fish move through water that seems impossible to fish effectively.
Often, simply watching these fish move through the wash is enough to leave you speechless. The way they appear and disappear amongst the swell feels almost surreal at times.
And when everything finally lines up, the cast lands in the right place, the fish tips down, and somehow decides to eat, it feels less like control and more like a moment of pure luck coming together perfectly.
Our 2026/2027 Southern Oman season is now open. If watching tails appear through the swell is something you’ve dreamed about, now’s the time to start planning.

Sight fishing to single waking queenfish in the slick is a spectacle on its own.
These slow-cruising fish flip a switch the moment the fly lands. Put the cast in the right place, lead them just enough… and the take is electric.
Our backyard queenfish will always be a favourite.

Ocean Active is based in Dubai and Oman. Obviously the current conflict has had a profound effect not only on our business, our families and those who work with us but also, crucially, the wider community as a whole.
Although we’re all fine and kept safe there are those amongst us who will be struggling either emotionally or financially, maybe both.
We ask three simple things.Be kind, be empathetic and be generous.

More Than Just One Fishery
Oman has been firing. From sailfish and mahi out in the bluewater to plenty of permit hook-ups tight along the cliffs, it’s always special to witness the sheer diversity this fishery offers.
For our guests, it’s as much a spectacle as it is a fishing trip — every day bringing new shots, new species, and a reminder of just how unique this corner of the world really is.

Oman in Prime Condition
Six days into this trip with four anglers from Ireland and it’s been proper Oman fishing.
Shots at permit every day along the base of the cliffs, with fish feeding tight to the rocks — exactly the kind of terrain where these Africanus thrive. Three of the four anglers have already managed to land theirs, with one of the guys putting two on the board. A few others have found the bricks along the way… a reminder of just how hard these fish fight once they turn for structure.
Offshore has been just as exciting. Sailfish have been showing in numbers, with two already landed on fly and plenty more raised throughout the week.
Consistent opportunities, powerful fish and the kind of fishing that keeps everyone fully locked in for the next shot.
Oman doing its thing.

Salalah Southern Oman, Permit Spring Tides 2026/27 Availability!
One of the secret weapons in targeting Africanus permit at our 5* Salalah fishery in Southern Oman is fishing on the spring tide. These permit are destinct from their flats feeding cousins since they congregate and feed on the semi-exposed mussel beds that hang hard up against the base of huge cliffs dropping vertically into the Ocean. To target Africanus on the mussel beds requires just the right amount of water washing over their feeding grounds in order to get them feeding on the mussels for the most visceral experience and the most chaotic once hooked in these gnarly conditions!
Of course, our guides know the fishery well enough to be able to give our clients shots regardless of tide but if you want the whole tailing fish, targeted cast, exact fly placement and (maybe, perhaps, sometimes) eat then spring tides are optimal.
Don’t be discouraged if you can’t book an optimal tide, our experienced guides will always a plan and try hard to put you onto fish regardless. Also our other two destinastions in Southern Oman Hallaniyat Island and Hasik (to be launched, watch this space) fish very well on both Neap and Spring Tides.
Below is the list of suggested optimal fishing dates, based around the spring tides, for the coming 2026/2027 season. For the last 6 seasons these dates have usually been booked first so the early bird catches the permit!
