What a year! I didn't have much time to breathe so consider this long post a bit of a reflective catch-up.
2+3: Had a lot health wise going on. Started year at 103.2kg, finished at 87kg, losing 16.2kg total and also stronger than ever. Changed both exercise routine and diet to make it happen. The results are easy to see!
4: Diagnosed with ADHD. Started medication and life is a much less anxious and calmer place to be. I'm playing on easy mode compared to before and my analysis paralysis is almost gone. These days I get in and get it done. What a relief!
5: Work wise, started the year with the studio being demolished. Spent years of work designing, building and operating it only to see it be torn apart within 7yrs of opening. I was eventually made redundant
6: Started new company with support from old workplace. Have spent the last 6 months chasing work and learning the business ropes like never before. It's still very early stages but it's great to have something to work towards I'm excited about
7+8: My two favourite releases I worked on were reissues of INXS Listen Like Thieves 40th Anniversary edition and Split Enz Enzcyclopedia Vol 1+2
9: Turned 40 (I'll get around to organising party soon!)
10: Grew a hyperactive 3yr old into a hyperactive 4yr old. The fun, curiosity and exhaustion is neverending
11: Started and finished the year with the best partner in the world. She pushes me to be better every day and is a font of patience, support and guidance to both me and mini me
Very exciting release! Something I've been working on with the INXS team for some time now, the 40th Anniversary Edition of Listen Like Thieves! My main role was to go through the archives, sort and digitise all the master tapes, then send the multi tracks to @mashupmartin and his team for remixing. None of this remastering the 44.1KHz CD from the 80s, true back to original 2" multi track mix from scratch at 24bit 96KHz. A huge effort from everyone. Stay tuned for a post or two more detailing the work and the surprises we found...

Last year I was involved in restoring the movie Muriel's Wedding in conjunction with the @nfsaonline . The audio was stored on 5x Ampex 499 2" tapes at 15ips encoded with Dolby SR. I baked them of course. No timecode information was provided so it was a challenge to sync, but after some research I figured it out and the transfer went smoothly.
Australian films were captured at 24fps, synced via a crystal sync at 60Hz on set. Problem is that Aus broadcast/DVD releases are at 25fps, so all other digital sources previous to this were at the wrong rate, confusing it further. This is why a lot of Aus movie releases everyone talk in a higher pitched voice as the movie is playing back 4% faster than they should be. This latest restoration and digitisation process fixed it and also informed the NFSA of missing information in their database.

This Studer A810 has been putting in the hard yards. It gets used most days of the week and still keeps going! I'd estimate this one has seen approx 2500 tapes in the past 18 months!
