Machineurotic is the debut EP from Obliterating Vortex, a technical death metal band hailing from Darjeeling, India. Released digitally in 2021 but recorded in 2015 at Garbage Studio, the EP captures a raw, chaotic energy that showcases the band's early-stage evolution in the world of tech-death.
Musically, Machineurotic blends intense blast beats, sharp riffs, and guttural vocals with complex structures that pay homage to both classic and modern technical death metal. The EP includes tracks like Butcher Fest, The Protestant, Fatalist Nihilist, and the epic Mrityu Ko Chitkaar. These songs reflect themes of existential dread and societal decay, with a heavy focus on technical ferocity.
The EP's release was a significant milestone for Indian extreme metal, especially in Northeast India, where complex technical metal is a rare sight. Fans from across metal communities have celebrated Obliterating Vortex for their unique sound, their explosive live energy, and their DIY approach to making music. Machineurotic helped place Darjeeling’s metal scene on the map, paving the way for more ambitious and intricate local metal acts.
While it may still sound raw compared to global standards, Machineurotic stands as a cultural landmark. It proved that technical death metal could not only be played but could thrive in the hills of Darjeeling, marking a moment of pride for the local metal community and inspiring a new generation of musicians to dive into more complex and extreme metal styles.
