Joinery update from site last week. The kitchen and passageway joinery was designed to look and feel like a singular unit. With the final panels installed it’s coming to life. The bedroom doors disappear and the laundry and reading nook are integrated.
The Tasmanian oak veneer has been stained a rich dark chocolate colour, anchoring the unit further. Door hardware, fabric squabs, books and art will add the next layer of detail and bring personal character.

THEIR House
A small(ish) but special alteration and addition to our own home. A simple brief, space for the kids to eat breakfast in the sun, read books, nag mum, be bored, sing, cry, dance to Dire Straits, host birthday parties, practice piano, swim with friends, smile and enjoy every part of growing up in THEIR House.
A small footprint with big ambitions. We are really excited to see this project come to life in the year ahead.

From the first conversations, briefing, and sketches, through to site observation and final handover, you deal directly with us. We're across every part of your project. This continuity makes a difference, not just in terms of the built outcome but your experience of the process getting there too.
Every project begins with a short phone call to say hello and understand your needs. Get in touch to book yours.

Led by us, Louise and Devon Booth. We both contribute to every project. This means you get the combined knowledge of two experts and a range of ideas.
We’re always keen for a coffee and a chat about your project and ideas. Give us a call or book online.
What became clear in our conversations with @emilystevens.co was that although we keep our relationships casual and collaborative, we take architecture seriously.
Our work is founded on time-tested design principles, then shaped around your daily moments. Rather than relying on unnecessary extras, we carefully refine a project’s form, function, and materials to create a purposeful result that brings joy to everyday life.
Hats off to @emilystevens.co for our beautiful new website. Refined and functional. Perfect for us.

Five years ago we set up Object Office. Since then, we’ve been focused on our projects and our clients. Now felt like the right time to pause, reflect on our growth, and recognise how we’ve shaped our practice into what it is today.
We’re excited to share our new, refined brand and website.
This identity reflects what matters most to us: designing spaces that bring joy and genuinely serve the people who use them. It captures who we are, what we value, and the principles that guide every project we take on.
A huge thank you to Emily @emilystevens.co for her brand strategy, design expertise, and for bringing this beautiful new website to life.

Testing mortar colour and joint styles with Mark @blackwolfmasonry before we begin cladding.
Its amazing how much the joint style alone can affect the appearance. Each sample lay tested both flush and raked using the same colour.

Great to be on site with the @maker_build team today. Caught some sunlight filtering in between rain showers on a mostly soggy grey (and freezing) morning.
The next few weeks will bring some exiting changes with claddings and interior linings about to begin.
It’s an exciting stage for our clients as their project moves from framing, to spaces looking and feeling more defined.

Te Mata Peak House, Havelock North.
In plan, the entrance is centrally located between two main volumes; the primary living to the front; and the guest wing and garage to the rear.
Journeying through the plan opens up various viewshafts, to be experienced in layers. The entrance views are oriented southwest to Te Mata Peak hillscape. Moving into the main living space, views northwest reveal Havelock North village and Hastings beyond. Moving deeper into the living spaces or primary bedroom, views northeast reveal the sea (our client's favourite view).
Spoiled for choice in this beautiful part of the world.
