The journey from Bisbee, Arizona to Malibu was made so much sweeter with a night @jacumbahotspringshotel Once upon a time Jacumba was a major train stop for routes going to Arizona and Bisbee was the largest city between St. Louis and San Francisco. Highways left both cities in the dust and yet both are now on musicians tour schedules and people like me (driving with a car full of Southwest vintage and Arizona made perfume) get to rest in restored resorts and mining towns. One of the many treasures packed is my swimwear collection designed in 2017 and manufactured in New York. I had been working as a shoe designer but learned pattern making just for the fit of this design (FIT was across the street from my shoe design office so took classes after work). I learned the most, however hiring a swimwear pattern maker who lived near Coney Island. I loved heading her way, from my Bed Stuy apartment on Saturdays in the middle of the winter and especially the summer (one train). It had to hit at the hip bone to follow the contour of the body and elongate legs. I only have sized Small left and was happy to fit into one to dip in the hot springs. I would love to return to the same factory in the NY garment district to make more so let me know what you think. So much work went into it over the years and yet I dropped it all when I got to Bisbee and started running @object.hotel which was a detour I’ll never quite understand as I struggle to imagine my life without it. The next arch of Object is integrating capsule collections (from other designers / artists / perfume makers as well as my own) and a Los Angeles outpost @objectmalibu Thank you @melissastrukel for the stay 🤍

Opening May 15th @objectmalibu will bring object’s collection of Arizona-made perfume, fringe jackets, swimwear, and jumpsuits to Los Angeles. @studiorachelbrand will be painting in the shop which is located inside a flower shop @themalibubungalows We can’t wait to reconnect with friends in LA 🤍🤍

This may look fun. And it is. Getting our rare Western capes + fringe online is a monumental task because @object.tradingpost is home to @bzb_bunnyzboots ‘s collection that spans decades of sourcing in Southern Arizona. Dozens of iconic pieces are still to be captured but here’s a glimpse of what you can find in Bisbee and on Objecthotel.com Shooting at Object you get 2 golden hours .. the sun setting over the canyon into the 3rd floor and the actual sunset 5 minutes out of town an hour or so later. @indigo_violet is ready for all of it.

Peek-a-boo! In an effort to sustain the Bisbee building overheads during our upcoming slow summer season we are building an online destination to shop rare Western heirloom pieces. Some magic happened on this rainy day in the store thanks to @ramblinsol and Paduke ! @b__o__h__m and @studiorachelbrand paintings now hang in the windows along with the beginnings of a designated men’s section in the store. For women we restocked denim shorts and brought in a selection of unforgettable perfume and candles by @sanaeintoxicants

Step into the sky! If you’ve been to Bisbee but never driven up past the tunnel to Juniper Flats, you’re in for a treat. Bisbee is high elevation (5000 ft) and this mountain is so much higher that the views are like what you see out of an airplane. Leave it to @puspaphoto to choose surreal locations to shoot the Bisbee Jumpsuit.

The jumpsuit I have been living in is made out of Italian Cupra. I wanted a version that felt like silk but wasn’t as expensive and the Tencel fabric I had sampled months prior was discontinued. This fabric is soft, cool and drapes beautifully on the body. My favorite part? Cupra is made when fabric is brushed with Copper !! The metal so abundant in Bisbee it became the second largest copper mine in America. We only have a few left in this material and it is very hard to find so if you’re choosing between the jumpsuits, this is the only material I may not be able to recreate. Think of it as an alternative to the “little black dress” that can be dressed up or down. You’ll never want to take it off. I found it at Mood fabrics in Los Angeles.. 7 small deadstock rolls lining a wall next to the Tencel fabric. It was love at first sight. And became a labor of love as I hand cut each piece. Working with one roll of fabric I could have paid a one time digital cutting fee of $300 (which I did for the other two fabrics) but working with the very last remaining yardage spread across 7 rolls it would have been 7 cutting fees! So in addition to all the care that went into developing this design, the Italian cupra jumpsuits were hand cut in Bisbee by yours truly with so much joy 🤍 One of each size is in our Bisbee shop and one of each size is traveling with me for Saturday’s Topanga pop up (and that’s all we have!) 📷 @tarynkira
