Sanctuary? Saturday with Grommet! We put the question mark there because Grommet is very quickly advancing from sanctuary to adoption ready! We really thought this man that perpetually looks like he just woke up from a nap would be with us forever, but he has become so friendly, sweet, and people-oriented, that we think he'd actually be happier in a home. He even recently started coming to the door to greet humans when he hears them coming! We are really confident that with just a little more time, he'll be popping up on Petfinder soon!! ❤️👏❤️. There is so much more that goes into successful trapping than simply setting a trap and hoping for the best. Every rescue is a strategy, a balancing act, and sometimes… a comedy of errors. 😅 Meet Mama May and her babies — Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. At just 5-6 weeks old, these little ones already knew the dangers of outside life all too well. Their safe space? A massive stone wall with endless escape routes and hiding spots. From the very beginning, we knew this would not be a “set a box trap and wait” situation. This family required a plan. Our goal was lofty: Rescue mama AND all 5 babies at the same exact time. Why? Because one wrong move could have resulted in Mama relocating the babies, making rescue exponentially harder. So the work began: 🐾 Establishing a strict feeding routine 🐾 Building familiarity with our presence 🐾 Leaving transfer traps and supplies nearby ahead of time so nothing unfamiliar appeared on “game day” 🐾 Carefully avoiding anything that might spook Mama May into moving her family We thought we had covered every detail. This family had other plans for us. LOL! 🤦‍♀️ After 8 long days, deep into the darkness, with two solid days of rain approaching… the moment finally came. Mama May and Monday-Friday are officially rescued from a life outside. ❤️ And yes… there is already a plan in place to get Daddy too! It became very clear he was not a “one and done” dude. 😬 Welcome to safety, little family. Peony’s story is one we feel is important to share—not just as an update, but as a PSA for anyone loving a cat with chronic oral pain. When Peony came to us, she needed full vetting and was already facing a tough road. She is FIV+, and was diagnosed with stomatitis while also actively battling calicivirus. Anyone who has loved a cat with stomatitis knows—this is not just “bad teeth.” It is painful, frustrating, and often an ongoing battle. The traditional treatment protocol is often full mouth extractions. While this can bring relief, it is not always a guaranteed solution, and some cats continue to struggle even after surgery. We want to be very clear—we are not promoting any specific product. But we are sharing that there may be additional options out there worth discussing with your veterinarian. For Peony, we chose to try a newer treatment option called Gingipro, that became available March 2026. Today marks 7 days into her treatment, and we are seeing meaningful changes: • Her drooling has stopped • Her appetite has increased • Most importantly—she is no longer crying out while eating For a cat who has been living in constant discomfort, that matters. Sanctuary Saturday Featuring Button! Two-year-old Button came to us just 3 months ago, and he has definitely learned the lay of the land. He knows humans are safe, that meals arrive on time, and that soft beds are meant to be enjoyed. He loves cozy spots and chittering at the other cats from across the room. Button follows the lead of the other cats, especially Picasso. He won’t even sniff a Churu unless Picasso approves it first, but once Picasso says it’s safe, Button dives right in! Cats learn so much from each other, and having confident feline friends around can make all the difference for shy cats learning to trust. At the 3 month mark, Button is really starting to settle in, which reminds us of the “3-3-3 Rule” for cats and dogs adjusting to a new environment: • 3 Days to decompress and feel safe enough to observe their surroundings • 3 Weeks to start learning routines, recognizing people, and building trust • 3 Months to truly begin feeling at home and letting their real personality shine Button is right at that magical 3 month stage. The nervous newcomer we first met is becoming a cat who feels secure, curious, and comfortable. Watching shy cats blossom is one of the most rewarding parts of rescue, and Button is proof that patience, routine, and friendship can change a life. Adopt Picasso! 🖤🐾 A fun fact about Picasso: he has the most complete and perfect tabby necklace we’ve ever seen! (That's the stripe around his neck!) A not-so-fun fact about him: he does NOT interview well. Picasso is an incredibly sweet, quirky little guy with the tiniest mew imaginable. In foster, he begs for pets and butt scratches, follows us around for treats, and happily plays with toys for hours. We tons of videos of him being affectionate and silly! But the moment strangers come to meet him, he gets shy and nervous and acts like we made the whole thing up. Picasso is going to need a “take our word for it” kind of adopter. He needs someone patient enough to let him settle in and show his real personality. Once he feels safe, he blossoms into such a loving companion! He’s the kind of cat that just wants to be near his people, whether that’s beside you on the couch, curled up on the bed, or hanging out next to you while you work at your desk.
