Looking back at our exterior renovation in Bloomfield Township, which reimagined the front of this 1960s home. The goal was to bring the home back to a more cohesive design that felt relevant to its original architecture.
Updated details lend a midcentury flair that feels more nuanced and intentional, giving the home new life and a warmth that was lacking in the previous exterior.

Centered around a generous, uninterrupted island, this timeless kitchen in our Downtown Cottage-Style residence is an ideal place to entertain and gather.
A pair of armchairs, set in their own niche close to the kitchen and main living areas, denote an informal sitting area. Ample daylight from the large surrounding windows overlooking the backyard provides for an ideal space for a morning coffee or a late-afternoon book.

Inspired by the building’s original life as the print shop for Rochester’s ERA newspaper, with the continued desire to weave its history into the present. In collaboration with @detroitwallpaper , we developed a custom wallpaper for the main powder room using high-resolution scans of archival ERA issues. Composed to resemble hand-applied newsprint, the installation brings texture and narrative to the space.
With some editions dating back more than 200 years, the wallpaper offers a glimpse into another time - its headlines, typography, and layouts add layers of visual intrigue. The result is an immersive look into the building’s past, mixing its rich historical character with its contemporary use.

Part III | House on the Hill
The primary suite serves as the defining moment among the home’s private upper-level spaces. Bathed in natural light from a wall of backyard-facing windows, the room is elevated by vaulted ceilings that create a sense of quiet grandeur. Decorative beams paired with a nickel-gap plank ceiling provide rhythm and balance, while a statement fireplace - framed in neutral stone with custom millwork above - anchors the space. Layered textures and warm, neutral tones in the furnishings add depth without overwhelming the calm atmosphere.
These detail considerations carry seamlessly into the primary bathroom. A radiused entry and wall niche in the wet room introduce a defining architectural feature, highlighted by the standout checkered zellige tile. Encircled by transom windows, the wet room becomes a focal point, filled with natural light throughout the day. Custom walnut cabinetry, oval mirrors, and herringbone floor tile round out the space, bringing warmth, character, and craftsmanship throughout.
While more private in nature than the main living spaces of the home, the primary suite is no less considered. Thoughtful detailing and a disciplined design approach ensure it remains a calmly personal space - one that feels both elevated and enduring.

Part II | House on the Hill
The result of a collaboration between the design team, client, builder, and cabinet designer, the kitchen serves as the centerpiece of the main living spaces of the home. Positioned to connect the dining room, butler’s pantry, and breakfast nook, the layout supports both everyday use and effortless entertaining. Classic symmetry and carefully considered detailing give the space a quiet elegance, drawing inspiration from the timeless character of traditional kitchens.
Custom elements elevate the design and create memorable moments throughout. A bespoke walnut island with brass accents and a soapstone countertop anchors the room, complemented by a veined marble backsplash, neutral-toned cabinetry, and a custom range with a concealed hood. Just beyond, divided-lite blue swinging doors lead into the butler’s pantry, with an English scullery feel. Inside, exposed shelving set against nickel-gap paneling and a sliding walnut ladder give the supporting space its own distinctive personality. The glass-paned partition separates it from the kitchen yet still maintains the visual connection.
In a family home, the kitchen inevitably becomes the center of daily life. From quiet Sunday breakfasts to lively Friday evenings with friends, this space was designed to be both highly functional and always inviting - a thoughtful place where it’s a pleasure to spend time.

Part I | House on the Hill
Designed as a timeless home for an active family, this Birmingham residence thoughtfully balances the rhythms of modern living with carefully considered materials and refined transitional detailing. It was an honor to work with such a creative client and a skilled builder, whose shared vision and craftsmanship truly made the project special.
The exterior balances a neutral, highly textured overgrouted stone with sleek, dark vertical siding and large divided-lite windows. Subtle yet intentional elements - standing seam metal roof accents, curved roof overhang details, a radiused wing wall framing a statement lantern, and a sculptural metal rain chain - provide custom, thoughtful distinction.
At the front entry, the architectural detailing becomes more concentrated and expressive. A custom, radiused door and matching curved entry profile draw the eye inward, establishing a focal point and elevating the arrival experience. This cohesive architectural language gives the home a presence that is both distinctive and enduring.
