We met the night before Tolu was due to return to the UK, at a games night organized in the estate. Neither of us had planned anything special, but somehow we ended up in a game of Ludo together—and that’s where it all began. We chatted, we laughed, and in just a short time, it felt like we’d known each other forever.
The next day he flew back, and I wasn’t sure I’d ever hear from him again… but then he slid into my DMs, and the conversation picked up like no time had passed. It was effortless. He made me laugh, listened deeply, and brought joy into every exchange.

We met at a popcorn stand on a faithful Friday, rushing for Jumu’ah prayers during our 100-level days at the University of Ilorin.
It was meant to be a quick stop. I was just trying to get popcorn and head out. But he stepped aside and said, “You can get yours first.” Simple gesture. Soft smile. Unexpected beginning.
Afterwards, he asked for my number. In all the rush and excitement, he saved it wrongly and before I could even disappear into the crowd, he came running after me to confirm the correct digits. The next day he showed up at my hostel door with big boxes of popcorn. I was just laughing (it’s not like I like popcorn 😂)
What started as a small act of kindness on a busy Friday slowly became conversations, laughter, friendship… and then something deeper.
