The Black Beat Magazine family mourns the loss of our friend Jellybean Johnson, a phenomenal musician who brought unparalleled energy to the stage, both as a drummer and a guitarist for the legendary group, The Time.
Jellybean wasn't just a part of the sound—he was the sound, crafting iconic, infectious rhythms that defined the Minneapolis Sound and helped propel hits like "The Bird" and "777-9311" into history. He was a force of nature who made every beat count.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and The Time bandmates during this difficult time. Crank up some of you favorite "The Time" classics and let the funk live on in his honor.
