🚨BIG NEWS
Thanks to a transformational $4M gift from The Sprott Foundation, donations are now matched 5X, helping us build our new Community Food Hub and expand food access across Toronto.
This is the single largest donation in North York Harvest Food Bank's HISTORY - and with a 5X match, there's never been a more powerful time to give. Monthly donors will have their donations matched for the WHOLE YEAR!
We are incredibly grateful to the Sprott Foundation for helping to bring our new Community Food Hub to life.
Our new home will significantly expand our capacity to store, prepare, and distribute fresh, nutritious food, while supporting long-term solutions including skills training, workforce development, and our social enterprise, FoodReach.

What if one small change in your week could help a neighbour meet their food needs?
That’s the idea behind the Give30 Campaign.
Inspired by the spirit of generosity during Ramadan, people of all faiths are invited to skip one small indulgence — coffee, snacks, takeout — and donate that amount to their local food bank.
Because when many people give a little, the community impact is huge. ❤️

North York Harvest Food Bank will be closed this Monday for Victoria Day. We'll be back to normal operations on Tuesday.
The warm weather is finally here, we hope you all enjoy it this weekend! 😎 🌻

BYE! 🗣️
We're not entertaining these conversations when:
‼️ 88% of clients live in unaffordable housing, with 1 in 5 spending ALL of their income on rent every month
‼️Nearly 40% of food bank clients are working
‼️ODSP/OW recipients receive minimal income support that leaves them trapped below the poverty line
People are already doing everything they possibly can. Families are forced to make impossible choices every month. Food banks are struggling to meet record-breaking demand.
We need policies at every level of government to urgently address unaffordable housing, insufficient income support, and access to equitable employment.
Learn more about the affordability crisis in Toronto and what we can do about it in our Who's Hungry Report. Link in Bio.

North York Harvest Food Bank's warehouse supports 30,000 clients across our food bank network every month, and it powers hundreds of community food programs through our social enterprise FoodReach, including schools, libraries, and drop-in meal programs.
It also serves as a training ground for our workforce training program, Leadership in Logistics.
In short, our warehouse is key to nourishing thousands, strengthening Toronto's food system, and creating pathways to full-time employment.
That's why we're grateful to be part of Charitable Gaming. Funds raised at Rama Gaming House help pay the rent on our warehouse space every month so we can continue making a difference in our community.

We’re excited to share that @canadiantire is the lead Workforce Training Partner to expand our Leadership in Logistics program — a paid, hands-on training initiative that helps people build skills and connect to meaningful employment.
When North York Harvest Food Bank opens our new Community Food Hub later this year, the space will not only increase access to fresh food, but also scale our long-term solutions to food insecurity.
Together, this work will help:
✅ Train more participants
✅ Create more job opportunities
✅ Build stronger connections to employers
✅ Support long-term stability for people in our community
Solving hunger requires more than food, it requires long-term solutions that create opportunity, build local capacity, and keep resources circulating within the community we serve.
We're proud to deliver this program in partnership with Canadian Tire Corporation.

Toronto City Council’s recent approval of the Inclusive Economic Development framework marks an important step toward building a more equitable Toronto.
Every month, North York Harvest Food Bank serves more than 30,000 clients. Through this work, we see firsthand that food insecurity is not simply about access to food, it is fundamentally an economic issue.
Insufficient income, precarious employment, and limited access to opportunity continue to drive demand for food banks.
The newly approved framework presents a meaningful opportunity to embed inclusive economic principles into decision-making across all City departments, supporting decent work, strengthening local businesses, and ensuring that prosperity is shared more equitably.
North York Harvest Food Bank was proud to support this motion and contribute to the conversation, along with other community partners, as a member of the @cityofto 's Inclusive Economic Development working group.
We commend City Council for adopting this framework. It signals a shift toward addressing not just immediate needs, but the underlying economic conditions that perpetuate them.
Thank you to @mayoroliviachow and Councillor @bravodavenport for championing this framework that works toward a more equitable Toronto.

Meet Melina, a volunteer at our Lawrence Heights Community Food Space! 👋
You'll usually find Melina at the registration desk, and as our clients' first point of contact when they enter the food space, she makes an effort to connect with everyone - both the clients she knows by name, and new individuals coming to North York Harvest Food Bank for the first time.
Melina goes above and beyond to ensure everyone is greeted with warmth and kindness. ❤️
"The thing I love most about volunteering is all the marvelous people I have met here. The clients, the staff, the other volunteers; together, we feel like a community and a family," Melina says.
This #nationalvolunteerweek, we extend our sincere gratitude to volunteers like Melina, who make a difference every day by showing up for their neighbours and making our community a better place for everyone.
