New York Folklore is proud to be a sponsor of The Nightmare Market, happening May 16th in downtown Schenectady! Make your way through the Nightmare Market to New York Folklore! @mimzy.henna.albany will be set up in our gallery offering a variety of henna designs for marketgoers. A small portion of each service will be donated to New York Folklore. The Nightmare Market is Schenectady New York’s premier alternative night market! Our market is a celebration of all things delightfully weird and wonderfully unconventional, spotlighting the best in local artistry, quirky vendors, and imaginative small businesses. Prepare to be immersed in a diverse selection of one-of-a-kind artwork, Halloween-themed creations, handcrafted curiosities, oddities, vintage wares, and much more!

Communities, get ready because you can highlight your unique folklore and traditions through the Legends & Lore® Marker Grant Program. Grant applications open March 9, 2026, and the program fully funds markers, poles, and shipping. Whether your story is a local legend, a long-standing tradition, or a folktale, a Legends & Lore marker helps share your community’s cultural heritage while supporting local identity, tourism, and storytelling. Learn more about eligibility, see examples of past markers, and get tips for submitting a strong grant application at the William G. Pomeroy Foundation website.

🎶 Proud to join @nyfolklore in Schenectady as we celebrated artists and tradition bearers who are preserving and sharing cultural heritage in our community. Through grant funding awarded here in Schenectady, Folklore is supporting local artists who are keeping important traditions alive — through music, craftsmanship, storytelling, and mentorship. Growing up in Mont Pleasant as the son of immigrants, I understand how powerful it is to hold onto culture — the language, the food, the music, the stories that connect generations. Grateful to New York Folklore for investing in the cultural richness that makes our community stronger. The arts bring people together — and tonight was a powerful reminder of that. 🎨✨
