Every New Yorker knows the relief of standing under a tree on a hot day. Trees are one of the most powerful and accessible tools we have to fight #climatechange! That’s why we’re making sure every community can feel that relief. With a goal of 30% canopy by 2040, NYC’s first-ever Urban Forest Plan is grounded in equity, resilience, and long-term care. From @nychagram 's Red Hook Houses with @nycparks , we’re proud to launch this roadmap for a cooler, healthier, and more equitable city for all New Yorkers. Read the plan: on.nyc.gov/ufp

I was proud to join the Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice to announce their Urban Forest Plan at the Red Hook Houses this week. 🌲🌳 There is no better celebration of Earth Day than this tremendous investment in planting and upkeeping trees across our city. Environmental justice neighborhoods like Red Hook know how valuable tree coverage can be—improving public health, safety, and resiliency. During major heat events, a tree canopy can serve as a major asset. Thank you to Louise Yeung, Chief Climate Officer @nyclimate and Tricia Shimamura, Commissioner @nycparks , as well as Deputy Mayor of Operations, Julia Kerson, and @treesny

This Earth Day, I'm so thankful for my time with all the incredible New Yorkers who care for our beautiful city, one tree and one building at a time, through big and small acts of stewardship across the five boroughs. Yesterday, we launched the city's first-ever Urban Forest Plan at @nychagram Red Hook Houses with our partners from the @forestforallnyc . And today, I spent the afternoon in Staten Island with @greencityforce to celebrate an exciting milestone for Cohort 30 to take the next steps in their careers in the green economy! I am so energized by all of the work New Yorkers are doing to build a greener, healthier city and am excited for more to come! - Louise

Earlier this week, we welcomed New York City’s Chief Climate Officer Louise Yeung and the team from the NYC Mayor’s Office of Climate & Environmental Justice (@nyclimate ) to Green-Wood for a site visit. 🌳🌿🌷 It was a chance to walk the grounds together and talk about what it means to care for a landscape like this in a changing climate. Public green spaces carry real responsibility: to cool our neighborhoods, support wildlife, manage stormwater, and make space for people to spend time outdoors. Yesterday, MOCEJ released New York City’s first Urban Forest Plan, a citywide roadmap to expand and care for the more than seven million trees that make up our urban forest, with a goal of reaching 30% canopy coverage. It’s a major step toward a more resilient and equitable city. At Green-Wood, that work is ongoing. From planting climate-adapted species and expanding our managed meadows, to reducing our impact on the Owl’s Head sewer system in South Brooklyn through our Stormwater Project, and caring for our “legacy,” or elder, trees, we’re thinking about how this landscape can continue to serve New Yorkers now and in the years ahead. We’re grateful for the visit and for the shared commitment to building a greener, more resilient New York. 🌱

Downtown Flushing, Queens has a new fast charging station! Expanding electric vehicle charging to communities that have never had access is a concrete step to make sustainable transportation attainable for all. The best part? Fast chargers will serve an area where many @nyctaxi licensed drivers live, supporting City’s plan to make all for-hire vehicle trips zero-emission or wheelchair accessible by 2030.
