Only one week into the new year, it happened again — just as we warned. ⚠️On Thursday, another carriage horse ran wild in Midtown and crashed into cars. This keeps happening because horses are nervous prey animals, hardwired to run when frightened. Forcing them into Manhattan’s unsafe environment is reckless endangerment that puts the public — and the horses — in danger and leads to violence. 🚨We are gambling with lives by allowing this to continue. City Council must act now — before someone is hurt or killed. 👉 Take action via our bio link to demand City Council pass Ryder’s Law this year. @nyccouncil @lynn4nyc @nycmayor

🚨 RUNAWAY CARRIAGE CRASH!!! Moments ago in Central Park, a terrified horse spooked and bolted out of control, dragging a carriage full of customers and smashing through a stop sign, garbage cans, and other objects in its path. The people in the carriage had to jump out to save themselves. The runaway horse nearly trampled people as panicked park-goers ran for their lives. People have already contacted us saying they were terrified for their lives. This is yet another horrifying reminder that horse carriages are cruel, unsafe, and a public danger. 👉 Demand the City Council end this abuse and danger. Tell Speaker Adrienne Adams @nycspeakeradams to hold a hearing and pass #RydersLaw NOW. 📞 Call 212-788-7210 📧 [email protected] 📣 If you live in NYC: Contact YOUR Council Member and tell them to co-sponsor and pass Ryder’s Law. ➡️ Go to our bio link for easy action: nyclass.org/StopHorseAbuse 📹 Were you there? If you have photos or video of today’s runaway disaster, please DM us immediately.

This weekend in New York City, I witnessed something that should no longer exist in 2026. Watching horses forced to drag tourists through screaming traffic, blaring sirens, exhaust fumes, sweltering heat, and crowded Manhattan streets was horrifying. These are living, breathing animals, not tourist attractions. Most people climbing into those carriages genuinely have no idea what they’re supporting. Under NYC law, carriage horses can legally work up to nine hours a day. They spend their lives walking on hard pavement surrounded by chaos completely unnatural to them. When their shifts end, many are kept in multistory urban stables tucked into Manhattan’s West Side instead of open pasture where horses belong. And still, year after year, horses collapse in the streets. Horses spook into traffic. Horses die in public view while tourists stand nearby taking photos. There is nothing charming about exploiting horses for entertainment in one of the loudest, most congested cities in the world. We have cars. We have pedicabs. We have endless transportation options that do not require animals to suffer for souvenir photos and romanticized nostalgia. A horse is not a prop. New York prides itself on being progressive and compassionate. It is time for the city to act like it. Pass Ryder’s Law. Ban horse-drawn carriages.

What an incredible evening supporting @nyclass . We gathered at the beautiful @lebasquenyc to stand together for a long-overdue cause - ending the horse carriage industry in NYC and ensuring these horses are retired to safe sanctuaries where they can finally live in peace. A huge thank you to the Le Basque team and @chefguyvaknin for the unforgettable DELICIOUS vegan appetizers and sushi, and to everyone who came out to support this movement! Special thanks to @karolinagomeznyc and Council Member @harveyforny for lending your voices and speaking up for this critical legislation. Momentum is building, and we will not stop until this bill is reintroduced and passed. The horses deserve freedom, dignity, and retirement from suffering and we are closer than ever to making that a reality! ♥️🔥🐴🥂 Take action at @nyclass bio link 🔗

🐴 78% of polled New Yorkers support ending horse carriages. And when tourists see it up close, they feel it too. 💔The fear. The exhaustion. Horses forced into traffic, collapsing or dying on pavement, used until they’re broken and discarded. Horses deserve better. This is not a “NYC experience.” It’s cruelty. Don’t be part of the trap. 🔗➡️ Go to the link in our bio and tell the NYC Council to reintroduce and pass Ryder’s Law this year so these horses can finally live free. #RydersLaw @nyccouncil

🚨BREAKING: A Central Park pedicab driver is speaking out against horse carriages. Tiffany Thomas, a New Yorker from Brooklyn now living in Harlem, works alongside the carriage trade and sees the cruelty up close. 🐴 Tiffany is calling on Speaker Julie Menin @speakermenin and the City Council @nyccouncil to reintroduce and pass Ryder’s Law so these horses can be freed from suffering and danger. Horses are meant to run free, but in the chaos of New York City, that instinct turns into deadly danger. It’s time to protect public safety and end this cruelty. 🔗Tap the ‘Take Action’ link in our bio to contact the NYC Council and ask them to support #RydersLaw to phase out horse carriages and rehome the horses to waiting rescue homes where they can finally safely run free. 🎉Ryder’s law is also a win-win for people: carriage drivers will be offered higher paying safer jobs with real benefits and worker protections, and Midtown Manhattan will be safer for everyone. @jennifercoolidge #@moby @whitneycummings @bellahadid @kaleycuoco @sidewalkangels @unbridledheroes_

ELECTION DAY IS TOMORROW!! The special election for @nyccouncil Member District 3 is Tuesday, April 28th. 🗳️If you live in Council District 3 {Chelsea, Greenwich Village, Hell's Kitchen, Times Square, Flatiron, and the Garment District}, please get to the polls and vote for Carl Wilson! @carlmwilson As CM @ebottcher 's Chief of Staff, we could always count on Carl's support in our advocacy for New York's birds, horses, rats, and other wildlife. And we are more than confident he will carry on @erikbottchersenate 's compassionate and strategic voice for New York City's animals. Carl has already demonstrated that he is a champion for the voiceless and we are excited to continue to work with him on our legislature. If you attended our rally last week, you heard Carl talk about what his animal protection priorities are and may have had an opportunity to talk with him one on one. A personal note from our Founder: As a longtime Chelsea resident, I can say with complete and unwavering conviction that Carl Wilson sincerely cares about our community, is unparalleled in providing constituent services, always fights the good fight without ego, and is an incredibly nice guy. In order to create meaningful change, we must elect the right people, not the ones with the catchphrases and soundbites. Carl Wilson is the real deal. For these reasons and more, @lightsoutnys @nyclass and @leagueofhumanevotersny are proud to endorse @carlmwilson for City Council Member in District 3! 🦉🐦🪿🦆🐴🐢🐁🐈🐕
