A first step toward expanding childcare for city workers 🍎 Applications opened today for The Little Apple, a new, first-of-its-kind childcare pilot for city workers at the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building. This program begins a broader effort to expand access to affordable childcare and support working families across city government. “The dedicated public servants who keep this city running deserve high-quality, free child care that meets the needs of their busy schedules — that is exactly what ‘The Little Apple’ will do,” — Mayor Mamdani. The pilot will provide free, full-day, year-round care for children ages 6 weeks to 3 years, helping meet the needs of working families. “We are taking monumental steps forward and transforming what child care looks like in a modern workforce,” said Commissioner Kitasei. Check the link in our bio to learn more!

Congratulations class of 2026! 🎓🎉 This week, the city proudly celebrated the graduation of the 2026 Management Academy cohort, a leadership development program that has helped strengthen the municipal workforce for more than 20 years. Participants from across city government have spent the last 12 weeks hard at work developing the skills needed to lead the next generation of civil servants. Congratulations to all of this year’s graduates--their work will only further strengthen city government and support the services New Yorkers rely on every day.

#TBT: The Sun Building ☀️ Long before modern skyscrapers reshaped Lower Manhattan, 280 Broadway helped define what New York City would become. Built between 1845 and 1846, the Sun Building is one of the oldest buildings managed by DCAS and one of the most influential commercial buildings ever constructed in New York City. Originally opened by Alexander Turney Stewart as New York’s very first department store, the building helped transform Broadway into a major commercial corridor and introduced architectural features that would later become common across the city — from Italianate design to the use of Tuckahoe marble and large French plate-glass windows. In 1917, the building was purchased by The New York Sun newspaper, giving the landmark the name it still carries today. The Sun also gave the building its now iconic four-sided bronze clock. After narrowly avoiding demolition in the 1960s, the building was restored through a public-private partnership completed in 2002. Today, this NYC landmark continues to serve New Yorkers nearly 180 years after it first opened its doors. Archival Images courtesy of the New-York Historical Society and British Library.
