This is a huge moment for the student movement. Finally, the poorest students will not be plunged into the highest debt, but will instead be able to access maintenance grants whilst at university. Thank you to every single student campaigner who has worked to make maintenance grants a reality over the last decade. Without you, we would never have achieved this.

The Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, has responded to our letters campaign on her decision to impose a 'visa brake' on students from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan from coming to the UK to study. Unfortunately, she failed to commit to any change for these students, so it's time to up the pressure - get your MP involved by using the tool in our bio!

Last week we came together as a Collective to plan how we can stand up to the rising hate and division we’re seeing on our campuses and in our communities. We know that hate is loud right now, but we’re showing that hope is louder 📣 Join our Liberation Collective using the link in our bio!

AD Would you know your rights if your phone was stolen? The Victims’ Code explains the rights that everyone can expect to receive as a victim of crime. This includes the right to be informed about the criminal justice process if you report the crime and that there’s support available even if you don’t Find out more about the Victims’ Code at the link in our bio @mojgovuk / This is a paid partnership with the UK Government. #VictimsCode

save this post so you can find it again if you ever need it! As of 1st May 2026, renters have stronger rights through the Renters Rights Act, including protection from no fault evictions, unfair rent hikes and discriminatory landlords. Make sure you know what you are entitled to!

Renting as a student can be as stressful as any university assignment. The Renters’ Rights Act is a transformative piece of legislation, giving us the ability to leave tenancies, capping the rent that can be demanded upfront, and stopping the rush to sign next year’s contract. Make sure you know your new rights! We are proud of the student leaders who worked with us to ensure that Act reflects the reality we face as students and gives us the reassurances we need to be able to feel secure in our housing. Those students have made sure that future students will not face the same exploitative conditions they had to endure.
