✨ OVERALL GRAND CHALLENGE WINNERS AND WINNER OF THE SUPPORTING COMMUNITY HEALTHCARE WORKERS SUBTHEME ✨
🌍✈️ Winning a trip to Africa are:
Elevion: Solar Forge
PROBLEM:
There is a significant rate of infection from the use of unsterilised equipment used for healthcare and traditional practices such as scarification. Most infections are preventable diseases such as: Tetanus, Sepsis, Pneumonia, Hepatitis and HIV transmission.
SOLUTION:
Solar Forge is a solar-powered dry heat steriliser. It allows for safe sterilisation of tools in just the 30 minutes with no need for electricity. It provides essential healthcare autonomy to rural communities.

✨ SEEDBANK TO FOREST THEME WINNER ✨
Mimea:
PROBLEM:
During transportation and storage seeds become damaged to the point where they can no longer be used. The quality of produce and future profits are significantly impacted.
SOLUTION:
A low-cost, smart storage system insert that protects seeds during transport controls temperature, humidity and airflow, ensuring the seeds are viable upon arrival.
The design is a reconstruction of a barrel commonly used with an engineered system inserts made of stacked mesh trays for airflow, a central sillia gel column to remove moisture and a smart lid with sensors and temperature readings.

✨ SMART AGRICULTURE AND FUTURE FOODS THEME WINNER ✨
Ceres Soil: Field Core
PROBLEM:
Smallholder farmers in East Africa lack access to affordable soil diagnostics leading to inefficient use of resources such as water and fertiliser. Current testing methods rely on expensive laboratory equipment that is largely inaccessible in rural areas.
63% of Kenyan arable land is estimated to be acidic, largely due to the use of misleading and unsuitable fertilisers. This leads to reduced nutrient availability, weakened soil structure and increased risk of soil erosion.
SOLUTION:
'Field Core' is a low cost, portable soil diagnostics device that enables farmers in Kenya and Uganda to assess soil properties and receive data-driven crop and fertiliser recommendations.
Field Core uses Urease enzymes and acid phosphate to measure nitrates and phosphates in the soil.

✨ ECOSYSTEM MONITORING THEME WINNER ✨
EASH: SolumSync Soil Sensor
PROBLEM:
Forest soils often go unmonitored for nutrient deletion until ecosystems are severely impacted. This can cause widespread crop failure for those who rely on it as a source of income.
SOLUTION:
- Measures soil moisture, pH and temperature.
- Probe inserted directly into the ground.
- LED simple display for readings
- Solar or battery powered
- Durable and waterproof for outdoor use

✨ RESILIENT TOURISM THEME WINNER ✨
Wild Guard: A wearable device for real-time poaching alerts
Problem:
East African countries heavily depend on tourism for GDP.
Tourism income is mainly provided by national parks and safaris showcasing local wildlife.
Solution:
Increased Ranger Safety: Real-time GPS tracking and panic alerts
Early Threat Detection: Sensors and cameras identify suspicious activity.
Real-time Communication Network: Keeps rangers connectors
Sustainability: Protects endangered species, preserving habitats
Economic and Social Impact: Sustains tourism revenue while improving ranger working conditions and local livelihoods.
