Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK) is a Slovenian collective founded in 1984 by @laibachofficial , @irwin.nsk , and the Scipion Nasice Sisters Theater.
Known for appropriating symbols from totalitarian regimes and nationalist movements, NSK exposes ideology as a constructed spectacle.
In 1991, the collective declared itself a “State in Time” - a utopian formation without physical territory.
Since then, it has issued passports, established consulates, and grown into a transnational community of several thousand citizens across continents, describing itself as “THE FIRST GLOBAL STATE OF THE UNIVERSE.”
An extension of this is NSK Garda: a photographic series depicting soldiers marked with a black cross, standing guard over the NSK flag.
