The National Society of Black Engineers (@NSBE ) has grown into one of the most influential organizations supporting Black students and professionals in STEM, continuing a legacy that began with a small group of determined students at Purdue University in the early 1970s. Founded in 1975 after a gathering of 91 students from 28 colleges, NSBE was created to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact their communities. What began as a campus organization quickly evolved into a national movement focused on access, representation, and opportunity in engineering. Today, NSBE has more than 25,000 members and over 700 chapters worldwide. The number of Black engineers graduating annually in the United States has grown significantly since the organization’s founding, reflecting its impact on recruitment, retention, and mentorship in STEM fields. As NSBE celebrates its 50th anniversary, the organization continues to reflect on five decades of building community, expanding access, and creating pathways for Black excellence in engineering and technology. Through outreach programs, national conventions, and mentorship initiatives, NSBE remains committed to ensuring Black students and professionals are represented in the industries shaping the future while inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in STEM. 👉🏾 Were/are you a member of NSBE? If so, where did you become a member? Let us know in the comments below. We at @watchtheyard have a national partnership with @nsbe and we love to see them win! Share this to your IG story and let’s all show NSBE some LOVE!

The end of the semester can feel weird. One minute you’re stressed about finals, the next you’re staring at your laptop wondering what comes next. Whether you’re applying for internships, searching for full-time roles, building projects, networking, or simply trying to reset, remember that progress doesn’t always happen overnight. Every application, conversation, revision, and late-night planning session is part of the process. Keep showing up for yourself. Stay connected to your community. Stay ready for opportunities. And most importantly, don’t let uncertainty convince you to stop moving forward. Your next step is still being built. ⚙️🖤 #NSBE #EngineeringStudents #BlackEngineers #STEMCommunity #CareerGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment #STEM

At #NSBE2026, BSX Live brought together leaders across engineering, innovation, and energy for “The Energy Era” — a conversation on how emerging technologies, infrastructure, and talent are shaping the future of the industry. From innovation in global energy systems to the importance of representation in STEM leadership, the conversation highlighted how engineers continue driving what’s next. Thank you to the panelists Donald Jefferson, James Gee III, Rashod Austin, and Shani Herrington for sharing their insight with the NSBE community, and to Chevron for partnering with us on this important conversation. 📍BSX Stage at the NextGen Innovation Expo #BSXatNSBE #BlackSTEMExperience #NSBE #EngineeringTheFuture

Artemis II represents more than a return to deep space exploration — it’s a reminder of what’s possible when innovation, leadership, and representation move the industry forward. 🚀🌕 Among the four astronauts selected for the mission is Victor Glover, a proud NSBE Lifetime Member, continuing a legacy of Black excellence in aerospace and engineering. As NASA prepares for its first crewed mission around the Moon in over 50 years, Artemis II is helping shape the future of aerospace engineering through advancements in technology, research, communications, and human spaceflight. For the next generation of engineers, missions like this expand what students can see for themselves — not only as contributors to the future of STEM, but as leaders helping define it. Swipe to learn how Artemis II is influencing the future of aerospace engineering and inspiring the next wave of innovators. ✨ #NSBE #ArtemisII #NASA #AerospaceEngineering #STEM #FutureEngineers #BlackEngineers #SpaceExploration #Engineering #NSBELifetimer

During the 2025–2026 term, with Chika Okwor serving as National Chairperson and Jarrell Johnson as National Professionals Chairperson, the focus stayed clear: serving the community, strengthening the pipeline, and leading with intention. Through the work done, the spaces created, and the people reached across the organization, their leadership left a lasting mark. The impact wasn’t just in what was done, but in how it was done — with purpose, care, and consistency. As they transition out, we recognize the leadership it took to carry this work forward and the foundation they’ve helped build for what’s next. Stay tuned to hear from our 2026–2027 Chairs soon.
