Hello world 🌎 tomorrow (Saturday 21st Feb) between 5-10 there is a show happening @eastmint in Northcote. Mailen Loarte @fieraverd3 has brought together musicians, sound artists and visual artists for a project titled Rain, Not Thunder, Feed Blooms. I’m expecting the unexpected. I’m throwing up a link to tickets in my story. You should be able to buy on the door but it could sell out and the tickets are sliding scale $, so grab one if you feel like coming down for a listen, view and engagement with a unique group of artists. Moons in Daylight has wrapped. 🌔🌔 Thanks to everyone who came along and supported the show and my practice. Thanks to everyone in far reaching postcodes who sent their love. I’m buoyed by the response and result. Looking forward to refreshing the studio a little and then jumping back in to realise some new visions. Between more pressing perceptual engagements; the city itself, its material, the suburban blue print and its infrastructural memes have the ability to become background noise - a peripheral anti subject that resists conscious exposure. In these works, I am trying to leak out some form of identification with this discreet urban phenomenology - some way an experience of life in the city and its domestic spaces aggregates within the imaginary over time and its affect on being. One subject of our present moment might be ever burgeoning technologies (AI etc) and their grip on collective cosmology. It is endlessly fascinating to me how we experience these types of contemporary self image within the persistent, aging and forgettable infrastructures of footpaths, roundabouts, rugs, indoor plants, pub and lobby floors, whatever - spaces rendered as discreet background map to the virtual expression of the unrelenting, futuristic self. It’s all here.

This work considers how objects of a biological nature can function in an almost virtual way. A type of quiet architecture in themselves, these readily available plants ascribe a form of value or status on space. The health of a plant, its size, its points of difference but mainly its sameness is what draws out a kind of visual economy from these ubiquitous objects. There is a kind of repeated construction and memeish pattern to glancing these objects between shops, patios and windows. In general, these indoor plants quickly recede. They are seen to be unseen. In fact, they radiate a transferable goodness that bestows upon the brand image of a business a type of casual, earthy finesse. And still, without them there are considerable voids, spaces we perhaps would rather not occupy. And of course, they are beautiful plants. So this work acts as a type of place holder or stand in for an actual plant, raising considerations of realness, authenticity and the cultural mash up of a biologically infused industrial design cum eco branding tool 💫
