Hey it’s me, Marielle (@mariellesegarra ). One thing I’ve learned as Life Kit’s host is that a lot of the most interesting stories start with a tiny moment of curiosity. I’ll be talking to a friend about their family struggles, or hearing about some new health trend from Tiktok, or trying to rebalance my retirement investments, and suddenly I’m thinking ... are we doing this right? What would the experts say? That’s where all of NPR’s stories begin. With questions, not conclusions. And your right to curiosity? That’s a right we’re always going to defend. #npr #foryourrighttobecurious

We’re thrilled to announce Colby McCaskill’s “Dear Papa” as the winner of NPR’s College Podcast Challenge! Among hundreds of entries from 35 states and 75 colleges, the @fordhamuniversity senior’s poignant story about the complex dynamics of family and aging took home the grand prize. The winning pod takes the form of a letter from a grandson to his grandparents, as @colby.mccaskill struggles to come to grips with distance, his grandmother’s dementia, and their inevitable decline as they grow older. “Dear Papa” blends memories from visits with his grandparents alongside interviews and reflections on his grandmother’s dementia — and the reality of memory loss affecting millions of families every day. Originally from Seattle and now based in New York City, Colby has said the podcast became a way to ask the questions he was reluctant to ask in person. Before making the show, he’d never spoken with his grandparents about dementia, his grandmother’s health or how their family was shifting because of it. We’re all the richer for his curiosity and unforgettable voice. Hear him soon on NPR’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered, and listen to “Dear Papa” today at the link in our bio.

“NPR — which I now know, stands for National Public Radio, I thought it used to be 'Nachos Plus Raisins' — you people are still the bellwether, the voice of information and news, as we need it more than ever before.” – Ron Burgundy 🎙️ Thank you Will Ferrell for standing up for public media and for your surprise appearance on Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! Last night’s sold-out live taping of @waitwaitnpr at the San Diego Civic Theatre was one for the history books. Will Ferrell joined Peter Sagal on stage and surprised the legendary Bill Kurtis, for one of his final shows before officially hanging up his headphones this month. Fun fact: Bill served as the iconic narrator of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. 🎧 Listen to Wait Wait tomorrow to hear “Ron” and Bill in a special night of NPR and public media history. Thanks for keeping it classy, Ron! Especially on Public Media Giving Day/#PMGD
