Long overdue, but thank you @larong_atin for hosting Asia Board Game Festival PH
I really underestimated the PH boardgame community. The support and passion for boardgames there was incredible, and I’m thankful to everyone who came by to try my game.
Thank you for the laughs and interest in what I created. Hope to see you all again next year
I’m excited to announce that I’ll be heading to ABGF PH to showcase my boardgames and connect with the amazing tabletop community there.

KING AND PEASANT - REVIEW 👑👩🌾🔪
[AD/loaned]
HEAR YE, HEAR YE, lovers of 18-card microgames! Looking for a 2-player quickie with fun tension?
👑 OVERVIEW
Each player has a different role with different goals:
- The Peasant is trying to use his Assassin to take out the King (usually by sneaking it into the deck and getting the King to draw it).
- The King needs to get rid of the Assassin by discarding it (or just survive until the end of the deck).
The deck has dual-use cards with Guards (King) & Rebels (Peasant). Each turn you can only take one action but the King MUST always draw a card at the end of their turn.
Full gameplay overview in our review on the blog.
👍 WHAT WE LIKE
- Super quick, pocket-sized game for 2 people - perfect for us & our coffee breaks!
- It has similar ‘hidden threat’ vibes to Exploding Kittens or Fight for Inheritance - these work better at higher numbers, so it’s nice to see a 2-player game where the gameplay works well.
- The asymmetrical roles feel different to play & the different goals/actions make thematic sense. The Guards/Rebels/Actions have unique names and iconography related to their powers, adding to the theme.
- Fun tension & tactics. I don’t usually like bluffing (the Peasant) or reading others (the King). I enjoy it here because it’s light & not the core of the gameplay (tactical use of cards is more important, and there’s different ways to win).
- Clever use of dual-purpose cards to make the most of the small deck.
🤔 CONSIDERATIONS
- You can only get it via an enquiry form on the publisher website (shipping is a bit pricey to the UK). An alternative is the pay-what-you-want PnP version on itch.io.
⚖️ VERDICT
King and Peasant is a smart, brilliant competitive 18-card game that we believe deserves more attention. For such a small, quick game there’s more tactics than you’d expect and we had a lot of cheeky tense moments. I sincerely hope it gets a wider distribution because that will help get on people’s radars.

This is a quick, asymmetric card game where players go head to head as King trying to cling to power and hunt the Assassin or as Rebels (Peasant) trying to assassinate the King.
✨ I love how fast paced this game is. The speed and size make this a great travel game - and while you do play cards into a central “town”, it takes up very little table space.
✨ The rules are easy to pick up, with very helpful reference cards that lay out actions clearly.
✨ While the game seems simple, winning is not. Although some luck is involved with drawn cards, you try to outmanoeuvre your opponent through actions and the timing of these actions. I preferred playing as Peasants as I felt I had more options for this although I felt the King had some more control through placing guards as protection. But this is what was enjoyable about the asymmetric gameplay and also that players swapped roles with each round (first player to win two rounds across three wins).
📝 Although it’s great for speed, it sometimes felt that 18 cards were too few to build momentum and pivot approaches. But then it’s so quick you can just play again and try a different approach!
This game was loaned to me by the publisher via @ukbg_review_circle for review but this hasn’t affected my opinion of the game
While walking around in #kl with @meeplematch.app we ran into a small Boardgame and video game convention and of course had to check it out! There we met Poon Jon from @npipsgames and he introduced us to his two player game “King and Peasant”.
It’s a surprisingly intense card game with only 18 cards! I beat him but I am fairly sure he just let me :-) follow our posts for look into his game or checkout their profile! #travel #boardgames
👑 King & Peasant Review 🃏
King & Peasant is a tense, asymmetrical 2-player microcard game of wits, bluffing and assassination plots! With one player as the powerful King and the other as the rebellious Peasant.
In setup, the King gets protective cards like Guards and must defend the realm, while the Peasant gets hidden cards including the deadly Assassin and Decoy, you take actions from your hand and engage in tactical play.
On each turn you perform one action such as draw, play a card, reveal a rebel/assassin, or manipulate the deck and then pass. The King is always drawing at the end of their turn, which creates pressure because if the King ever draws the assassin, the Peasant wins immediately.
Gameplay Outcome 💪
• Peasant wins if the King draws the Assassin from the deck.
• King wins if the deck runs out or if the Assassin is safely discarded.
• Play continues until one player’s victory condition is met, often in 10–15 minutes.
✨ What I liked:
It’s a smart little duel, super simple on the surface but deceptively tactical. The asymmetry makes each game feel like a mini spy thriller: the Peasant sneaks threats into the deck while the King tries to sniff them out!
🤔 Things to consider:
It only plays with two, so it’s not a party game and it’s more of a head-to-head psychological duel. Some might find the tension a bit slow at first, but once you get into the dance of hiding and revealing, it clicks. I really struggled to get the tactics and ultimately lost all the games we played but I still enjoyed it! I’ll win next time I’m sure of it 💪
Overall, King & Peasant is a compact card duel, perfect for quick head-to-head sessions when you want something strategic, tense and unpredictable 👑 or it’s straight back to the stalls with you! 😄

An asymmetric two player card game with only 18 cards?! Let's see how this duel plays out! 🗡️

👑 King & Peasant - Board Game Review 👑
✏️ @npipsgames
👥 2 Player
🕓 10 - 15 Mins
This game plays as a two player duel - one player will be the king and the other will be the peasant, who also has the aid of an assassin. The king must eliminate the assassin before the assassin kills the king!
Whoever wins the first round plays as the king for the next. If you win two rounds in a row, you win overall!
_____
🗡️ Few Cards, but Full of Strategy 🗡️
I am always intrigued by 18 card games, as they often pack a punch for so few cards - and this game doesn't disappoint! The cards are cleverly made to be half "peasant" ability and half "king", instead of having two separate decks.
_____
🗡️ No Easy Victory! 🗡️
Gameplay sounds easy - eliminate each other. However.. it's not as easy as it seems. You have to think wisely about what cards you'll use when. Gameplay does definitely feel harder for the King as their role is more luck based. The king doesn't know where the assassin is and finding it is tricky! There are 3 ways to win as a peasant and only 2 as king. Since you have to win two times in a row to win overall, gameplay can definitely take longer than 15mins - but you could always stop earlier too!
_____
💭 The Final Judgement 💭
For a medieval-themed game, I think the art style is very sleek, I really like it! I did feel like something was missing - I felt the luck-based element made strategy a bit tricky. But overall, it's a great, gritty, travel-sized game, perfect for two players on the go. It's definitely not easy, but learning it is simple! It's one of those games that is easy to learn but difficult to master. If you enjoy a challenge and two player duels, I think you'll like this!
