Special Event: How Ending Money Bail Has Protected Survivors of Violence.
Throughout the fight to end money bond and reduce pretrial jailing in Illinois, opponents weaponized survivors of gender based violence and used misinformation to try to and stop the Pretrial Fairness Act. These attacks ignored the ways in which wealth-based jailing has failed to keep survivors safe and erased the central role that survivors and anti-gender based violence advocates played in drafting and passing the Pretrial Fairness Act. The law makes strides towards granting survivors more opportunities to be a part of the pretrial process.
Join survivor and policy advocates as we unpack how this historic reform supports survivors and discuss how the law’s implementation impacts victim services.
📅Date and Time: May 12th at 6 pm
📍Location: Lincoln Public Library, 326 S. 7th St, Springfield
Hosted by: Illinois National Organization for Women, Faith Coalition for the Common Good, Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice, The Network: Advocating Against Domestic Violence, Chicago Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation, and Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

“I hope that everyone at home, every woman, doesn’t matter if you have a big dream, if you have a crown, if that takes away your dignity, you need to go.” - Fátima Bosch, Miss Mexico 🇲🇽👏
When a woman is publicly called dumb and asked to be silent, it’s not just a personal insult — it’s a systemic one. At Every Woman is Worthy®, we believe that being treated with dignity, being able to speak your truth, and holding space for your voice is non-negotiable.
__________
Context:
At a lead-in event for the 2025 Miss Universe 2025 pageant in Thailand, there was a highly visible confrontation between Nawat Itsaragrisil (executive/organizer) and Fátima Bosch (Miss Mexico). Nawat publicly challenged Bosch for allegedly declining to participate in a promotional shoot, and during a live-streamed ceremony he called her “dumb” and asked for security to remove her when she asserted her voice.
Bosch responded by stating she felt disrespected and that she is not a “doll,” asserting her right to speak and be treated with dignity.
As a result, several contestants, including reigning Victoria Kjær Theilvig, walked out in solidarity with Bosch. Nawat issued a public apology, saying that if anyone felt uncomfortable he apologizes, and that there may have been misunderstandings.
The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) leadership condemned Nawat’s conduct, stating his behavior violated the values of respect and dignity for women, and announced his role in the pageant would be restricted.
