EarthDay 2026 40,000,000 pieces of plastic, gone. Not avoided. Not offset. Replaced. This Earth Day, we’re marking a milestone that once felt impossible, and is now happening, every single day. 11.6 million items replaced in the last year alone. That’s around 30 every minute. And it’s accelerating. Because this isn’t about one product, or one moment. It’s about proving something bigger: That packaging doesn’t have to be damaging to the environment or to human health. That natural materials can perform at scale. That small swaps, repeated millions of times, start to reshape entire industries and behaviours. From takeaway food to global supply chains, change is already in motion. And we’re just getting started. Momentum is building. Join us this EarthDay in replacing single-use plastic at scale. 2025 was a year of real-world impact at scale. As awareness grows around microplastics, plastic chemicals and waste, the materials we use every day are facing new scrutiny. What was once developed in the lab is now being used at real scale. 41+ million all time single-use plastics replaced. 75 tonnes of plastic displaced. 450 tonnes CO₂e avoided. Our 2025/26 Impact Report explores the partnerships, science and systems change bringing seaweed-based packaging into everyday use across stadiums, universities, retail and foodservice. Because this is no longer just about replacing plastic. It’s about redefining what packaging should be made from in the first place. The story of Notpla began in a student kitchen, with a bold idea: what if packaging could be made from nature - and even be edible? 🍃 In 2014, Rodrigo & Pierre set out to tackle one of the world’s biggest challenges: single-use plastic. From their first invention - Ooho (the viral edible bubble), to today’s seaweed-based materials replacing plastic worldwide, we’ve come a long way. 💡 Nearly 12M plastic items replaced in 2024 alone 🏆 Winners of Prince William’s Earthshot Prize 🌍 Partnering with Just Eat, Decathlon and more And with £20M raised to scale our impact, this is just the beginning. Follow us to see what’s next - because the future of packaging is made from nature 🌱 #Notpla #SeaweedRevolution #SustainablePackaging

Swap with Notpla. 7 simple swaps to Not-Pla your diet. The conversation around microplastics is growing, and so is the need to rethink the materials surrounding our food. Takeaway packaging. Storage containers. Water bottles. Cooking utensils. Most were designed for convenience, not long-term food contact. At Notpla, we’ve spent years developing seaweed-based materials designed to replace traditional plastic in food packaging and foodservice. Because the future shouldn’t rely on materials designed to last forever. Simple swaps. Better materials. Less plastic touching food. What’s one swap you’ve already made? #SwapWithNotpla #SeaweedRevolution #BetterMaterials #Microplastics

The Science of Coffee at the @sciencemuseum 07 MAY 2026 Last Thursday, we joined forces with @macawcoffeebr , @dengochocolates and the Science Museum Group in London for an evening exploring the future of a sustainable, bean-to-cup coffee movement through the lense of farming, flavour, sustainability and material innovation. ️ From Brazilian coffee farmers and ambassadors to experts across trade, packaging and materials, the conversation brought together the people rethinking one of the world’s most consumed products, from bean to cup. Notpla CEO Pierre-Yves closed the evening by sharing the journey behind our Horizon Europe ‘No plasti-cups’ project: developing a new generation of naturally coated, plastic-free coffee cups designed to perform without leaving a lasting footprint. More conversations like this are needed, bringing together science, industry and innovation to challenge the status quo and accelerate better solutions. Huge thank you to the Science Museum Group for hosting such an inspiring evening, and to all the speakers, partners and guests who made it happen. We’re hiring. Notpla is growing, and we’re bringing new people into the team across materials, engineering, design and commercial. These roles sit at the centre of how our products are developed, scaled and brought into real-world use. From advancing our seaweed-based materials, to refining how they run on existing machinery, to shaping how they’re presented and adopted by partners. If you want to work on materials that replace single-use plastic at scale, and be part of making that work in practice, we’d love to hear from you. 🔗 Explore the open roles via the link in the bio. #Notpla #SeaweedNotPlastic #Hiring #ClimateCareers #SustainablePackaging

PML’s Prof. Pennie Lindeque and Dr Rachel Coppock have just returned from Svalbard (Norway) to tackle one of the world's biggest pollution problems: coffee cups! Up to 300 billion single-use ‘paper’ cups are thrown away every year. But despite the name, they are actually plastic-lined and fewer than 3% ever get recycled. As part of the EU-funded NO-PLASTI-CUPS project, led by Notpla - developers of seaweed-based alternatives to plastic - our team travelled 3,000km north to undertake extreme environment testing to understand the fate and toxicity of traditional disposable cups alongside new cups from Notpla, made with natural coatings. The results will help shape the future of sustainable packaging, making sure the solutions developed actually work, wherever they end up. Simple Swaps. Big Impact. The conversation around microplastics is growing, and so is the need to rethink the materials we use every day. At Notpla, we’ve always had one mission: to replace single-use plastic with natural, disappearing alternatives designed to leave no lasting impact on the environment or on human health. Over the next few weeks, we’re spotlighting the swaps already happening across our materials, our partners, and the industries we work with. Simple swaps. Better materials. Real impact. Follow along as we explore what it means to #SwapWithNotpla. Join the seaweed revolution. #notpla #SeaweedRevolution #PlasticFree #BetterMaterials SustainablePackaging

London Marathon, you’ve made history once again. Yesterday’s race will go down in the record books. A huge congratulations to every runner who took on the challenge and to Sebastian Sawe for an extraordinary sub-two-hour finish (01:59:30). Moments like this remind us what human endurance can achieve. Back in 2019, we were proud to be part of that journey, offering Ooho as an alternative to plastic bottles along the course. A small shift with a big impact. Today, we’re continuing that mission with our ooho technology optimised for rethinking energy gels, the next generation of sports nutrition, without the plastic waste. #LondonMarathon #Marathon2026 #RunningCommunity #SustainableInnovation #Notpla

Inside @arupuk canteen: how plastic is being removed from the everyday sandwich box. In workplace catering, packaging is rarely the focus. It sits in the background of a process built for speed. Food prepared quickly, placed on the shelf, picked up between meetings, and disposed of just as quickly. But that background layer is where a significant amount of single-use plastic remains. Across workplace catering, reducing single-use plastic is becoming part of day-to-day decision making. At Arup, that shift is underway. Working with @goodeatingco , Notpla’s seaweed-based sandwich packaging has been introduced across the canteen, replacing plastic-lined formats with a material designed to behave in the same way, but with a different end of life. The format remains familiar. The process stays intact. But the material, and the outcome, changes. It started with a question: how can materials be made differently? Today, it’s a growing body of work. From coatings and paper, to edible formats and moulded products, it all comes from the same place, rethinking what packaging is made from. At Notpla, we’ve always believed the real shift happens at the material level. Not just reducing plastic, but replacing it with something fundamentally different. Seaweed is where it starts for us. And it will continue to shape what we build next. #Notpla #MaterialInnovation #SeaweedPackaging #PlasticFree FutureOfPackaginG
