This year, The North Face convened the second cohort of leaders—storytellers and creators—who are continuing the work to bring the Practices to life through storytelling and grantmaking."⁠ ⁠ From 2022-2023 ONLY: Part 1 of our work, selecting grantees to work with TNF, builds on the foundation of work their organization does in partnership with outdoor nonprofits.⁠ ⁠ Part 2 of our work, which you'll see in the coming months, delves into a very personal story: splitboarding, connection to land and community, and the ties back to inclusive exploration and one of the grantees will all be featured here.⁠ ⁠ Being invited to join The Council has validated the path I've chosen as hybrid athlete and storyteller, and I can't wait to share more. Here’s my summer ask. I’m having ACL surgery on 6/16 and need a place to land while I heal — somewhere I can do the quiet, necessary work of recovering well to come back strong. I’m nervous but BELIEVE this time will bring me back better than ever. * Studio or ADU, solo (no roommates — I’m an introvert and cannot people while healing) * Locations: Salida / Buena Vista, Leadville, Frisco, Minter, Carbondale * July 1 through August 30, but open to longer stays * Must-haves: within 15 minutes of PT, a gym, and quiet roads for walking and eventually getting back on the bike * Month-to-month, house-sit, or pet-sit — open to all of it I view the surgery and required downtime as an opportunity to deepen my healing practices and broaden my horizon as I transition to a new timeline. It’s scary to leave the place I’ve called home for many years, but I need to be closer to my surgeon for frequent checkups. “You must unlearn what you have learned....” 🦵🏽Six weeks: until major knee surgery. 🏡Just a couple of weeks: to secure post-operative housing that doesn’t break the bank. ⏰ Now: Shedding all relationships with unhealthy power dynamics. Life taught me that pursuing comfort as much as success would bring satisfaction and joy. Life was wrong. Struggle defines our human existence. To live with complacency and in the perpetual pursuit of comfort is a denial of our humanity. Struggle shows us who we are. More than building resilience, it creates the capacity for greater joy and personal triumph. Master Yoda told Luke Skywalker “You must unlearn what you have learned,” in The Empire Strikes Back (1980), urging him to let go of preconceived limitations, self-doubt, and dogmatic thinking. I’m getting my knee fixed! 🏃🏽‍♀️🏂🧗🏽‍♀️🏄🏽‍♀️ the slow road to 100%. “What is integration work?” a friend recently asked. I tried to put into words that it’s a synthesis of our peak experiences AND the shadows we find in the depths of our souls. It’s learning to flow with change, embrace healing and slowing down, and articulate what creates constriction in our hearts (and bodies). When I first injured my knee in May 2025, surgeon #1’s vibe was: “get strong and let’s see how it goes.” So I did. I doubled down on my commitment to myself — and noticed where I was pouring energy into people who didn’t share that commitment to vulnerability and growth. A year later, I’m still learning two things: 1 — the 💫❤️✨ I pour into people, places, and projects that strike a chord is bottomless 2 — the boundaries I’m learning to set are what make true reciprocity possible A question for myself as much as anyone else caught up in the hustle to achieve-win-succeed: How do we let ourselves be nurtured?
