Part 3 of 3 - Michael the Speaker & Host ☀️ It was an honour to be a co-host for the Clan Mothers Healing Village fundraising gala at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights last week alongside superstar Nicole Dubé! When I am a host for larger events like this, it is important to me to weave connections and actions into our time together in between the performers, food and other festivities. I love that a whole community can come together to celebrate important work like that of the clan mothers, supporting those who have been through such traumatic experiences to access the healing and support they deserve and to come out the other side healthy, employed & empowered. I wouldn't be able to do any of this work without the support and love of Angie Lamirande (in the video), Dave Sherman & the whole POP family! * Please check out Parts 1 & 2 * #speaker #host #helper

Part 2 of 3 - Michael the Speaker & Host Last week I was invited to be one of the keynote speakers for the Manitoba Planning Conference that brought together a variety of planners and professionals from across the province. I was asked to present on land acknowledgements, but anyone who knows me, knows that I have a process to develop an accompanying action statement that is informed by the calls and recommendations from Indigenous people and our families impacted by these systems. Thanks to the organizers and attendees for having me and especially thanks to those of you who help make our world a better place by sharing your gifts in Planning! Kinanāskokitinow! * Part 3 coming soon!* #Speaker #host #helper #adventures #keynote

Part 1 of 3 - Michael the Speaker & Host Last week I was able to visit my old high school and connect with the current students. I was invited back alongside a group of alumni, and we all share our experiences and career trajectories with those students in a series of workshops. I was able to talk about my journey to becoming a public speaker and author, invite them to this year's North End Grad Walk, highlighted language initiatives and also shared some of our current work with North End History & The Palace Theatre. Thank you so much to the parents advisory committee, the school of leadership and especially the students themselves (alumni included) for making this such a special day! *Stay tuned for Part 2 & 3* #Speaker #Host #Helper #adventures

May 5 is #reddressday, but we need to take action to prevent violence against Indigenous women, girls and gender diverse relatives every day! How? There are 231 calls for justice from the MMIWG report to help guide systems and 8 pertaining to everyday citizens to help guide you and me! #mmiwg #stoptheviolence #justice

Gotta love it when the books you order finally come in! Today, these two books have come in (Thank you to @mcnallyrobinson !) And I'm very excited to share them with you. I have been referring to these books, the roles and models referenced especially within the organizing guide for many years, but couldn't find my personal copies. I have a habit of giving books that are important to me away...so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that I can't find them on my own shelves lol. Please check out these books if you have a chance to: 📕 "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the age of colorblindness" by Michelle Alexander 📘 "Building a Movement to End the New Jim Crow: an organizing guide" by Daniel Hunter #systems #justice #movements #organizing #books

I was having fun checking out some of the beautiful Indigenous artwork at RRC Polytech in downtown Winnipeg. There are so many talented artists in our city, what is your favourite piece of public art? 🍓 #art #winnipeg #publicart #expression
