I had the pleasure of touring and staying at @nopalitofarm for two days during our very warm winter of 2026. I absolutely LOVE visiting and supporting our local farmers who in my opinion, are doing very important work. Eating organic, local, seasonal food is in deep rhythm with what our bodies need. They have a few great offerings to the public which include staying in one of their Hip Camp cabins, U-Pick fruits, U-Pick flowers or tours of their farm! The farm was founded in 2015 by the Brownwood family. Both brothers, their partners and their parents have lovingly tended this property into what we see today. They currently grow avocados, figs, oranges, blood oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes, kumquats, multiple varieties of guava, pomegranate, mulberry, passion fruit, stone fruit, and even ice cream bean trees! Flowers are blooming. The field is alive with color and light, bees and butterflies. We’ll be selling at some bakeries around town next week(more info later) and I think we’ll start a u-pick operation soon. Stay tooned. 📸 @jonathanfurlong

This Mother’s Day, we’ve added some tasty kumquats to our rustic, organic bouquets. They’re really so lovely:) As always, you can find them this weekend at our favorite bakeries, @wayfarer_bread and @michimichibakery

Part of an effective integrated pest management protocol is establishing barriers while encouraging pathways. New fencing keeps rabbits and gophers away from the garden, while a native plant corridor, planted a short distance away, provides forage and shelter.

We admire the wax flower’s steadfast persistence. It grows like a living metaphor of love as ultimate potential. On Friday and Saturday this week, find our bouquets at Wayfarer Bread and Michi Michi bakery.

A few years ago, we made a decision to fallow our hopyard, discouraged by the intensive water use and heavy labor requirements. We’ve since dedicated those couple of acres to growing a variety of perennial flowering shrubs; wax flowers, leucadendron, and leucospermum. These plants come from analog climates, climatic cousins of ours whose rainfall, temperature range, and seasonality closely resemble ours, allowing us to tend to a crop with very little resource requirement. They truly are a most appropriate crop for our bioregion. What they lack in providing food for our community, they make up for in nourishing our senses and our souls through their rustic beauty.

This new year has brought with it a particular sense of urgency toward repair, restoration, and careful stewardship. Our bioregion, where we grow, experiences its most profound growth during these winter months, where dry-dormant-brittle turns a saturated vibrant green, tender with potential. As our planet shows strain, ecosystems imbalanced and social structures disordered, a yearned-for renewal emerges; the waft of an early-to-rise ceanothus, a bell-tolled manzanita, the gift of a sweet mandarin.
