As part of NONSENSE issue 01’s launch program, we invited some friends to join us for a special luncheon at @cascina_giudici . The moment provided an escape from the city ahead of the chaos brought about by Milan Design Week and an opportunity to mingle without an ulterior motive. The menu was thought up and prepared by young chef @_matteo.allegri , with a tablescape and set up designed by @_femmefleur_ Thanks to @tenuta_la_poggiona & @mia_kombucha for the delicious libations. The day was seen through the lens of @maledetta.stefani

As announced, NONSENSE is coming to Milan! We are bringing the magazine and its protagonists around the city and presenting the project to you all. Meet us at READING ROOM @byreadingroom for our first official presentation on April 16th, from 6PM to 9PM. We worked with Swiss-based design studio @ginimoynier to create an installation that will immerse you in the world of ISSUE 01. Of course there will be wine, provided by the one and only @tenuta_la_poggiona —our main partner for the debut issue—and kombucha by @mia_kombucha ! Come and toast with us.

As part of our ongoing effort to collaborate and create synergy with the protagonists of the stories in NONSENSE, we asked Studio Eidola to rethink what our magazine could be if they tore it apart and turned it into something else. Of course, their solution to this request went above and beyond our expectations as they became inspired by the stone pictured on the cover of issue one and created a magazine holder-meet-table inspired by the Zeitungshalter often found in cafés in Zurich. This is what Denizay and Jonas said about the process of making it: “For around three years, ‘the cover page stone’ had been quietly sitting in our studio, waiting for its moment. We collected it from a limestone quarry in Basel as a discarded piece, and since the quarry is no longer operating, it felt only right to give it a modest second life. Once Lukas @lukassaxer turned it into a cover star, we thought it would be fun to let it continue its career as a magazine holder. Inspired by the Zeitungshalter still found in some local cafes, and helped by a pedestal made from offcut wood from a nearby wood manufacturer, the object came together almost by itself: part display, part support, part slightly overqualified stone furniture.”

AMBIGUOUS OBJECTS: STUDIO EIDOLA Material Fictions at the Edge of Design and Architecture — Against the backdrop of a white-washed room, a dense layer of soil mixed with stones of varying sizes spreads across the floor, transforming the ground into something unstable, almost unsettled. From this uneven terrain, a series of vertical forms begin to emerge, rising quietly yet insistently, like solitary presences claiming space. They recall totems, or perhaps fragments of an archetypal architecture—structures reduced to their most essential state.

This is the first image encountered upon entering the website of Studio Eidola (@studioeidola ), an interdisciplinary practice based in Zurich, founded by Denizay Apusoglu and Jonas Kissling. Apusoglu is an industrial designer; Kissling, an architect.
It is immediately clear at first glance that their work revolves around matter and material—elements the pair manipulates to create new possibilities and inform whatever project they may take up next. Researcher, curator and founder of Architectural platform @forgotten__architecture Bianca Felicori reviewed their work for NONSENSE issue 001 “ARTISANS”. THE PATIENCE OF COLOR Inside Azur, the Marseille fashion brand reviving natural dyeing and the quiet precision of handmade textiles. — The fashion industry is notoriously known for its hectic pace and unsustainable practices—even at luxury level. The amount of waste generated by the surplus of garments produced by the relentless fashion calendar, with collections landing in store before the previous season could sell out, is paramount. Many solutions have been put forward, especially since the COVID-19 shut downs, but little has been done to truly implement a change. However, despite the demanding nature of the industry, there are pockets of hope. One as such is AZUR (@azur.world ), the artisanal womenswear brand founded by Lisa Favreau and Lisa Guedel-Dolle.

Based out of Marseille, in the South of France, the label focuses on using high quality, natural hand-dyed fabrics to create contemporary pieces that have steadily captured the attention of stylish women worldwide. Their garments can take up to six weeks to deliver…but customers are unfazed by it. NYC-based fashion writer and expert Tasnim Ahmed (@tsnmmd ) interviewed the founders of AZUR for NONSENSE 001 “ARTISANS”.
